by Logan Pellegrino on giving manor west a 2.5 stars. went for a bday party. friends got here at 10:15 (guestlist closes at 11) and the line was ridiculously long... but inside it was empty. we paid $20 essentially to see our friends. the venue is a long hallway with one bar area. it's weird because as you move down the hallway you expect there to be people all throughout... but then it kind of just becomes empty. the dj was only ok. it was nice they offered red stripe at the bar i guess. i feel like the set up is very odd. instead of putting the dj along the long side of the hallway they could put him at the very end so there's more dancefloor. they could extend their bar area by making it wrap around the corner or something. anyway, the people in general was an older crowd late 20s early 30s.
by christa y. on Happy hour review only! I tend to do my night-time drinking at the more divey fun Motherlode down the street... I've been here for hh at least three times in the last few months and each time it gets better and better (a rareity in the 'Ho). The food was always tasty, but lately their portions have gotten bigger (yay!) and the entire menu has expanded (double yay!) and service is surprisingly attentive. Beers are cheap ($3!), so I normally down a Stella or three while eating my way into a Friday food coma. One of the new additions, a sort of salmon ceviche on toast, was awesome and only $5 (as is the rest of the hh menu). Fish tacos were a little on the small side, but the generous helping of chips/quac and mac & cheese ($6) made up for the deficit. The name change is still a mystery... is the nightclub Eleven and the restaurant District Grill?? I must know!
by Francina Proehl on The King King is brilliant. Granted, a big part of this Friday evening was listening to KCRW DJ, Raul Campos, just kill it. Honest to goodness, he played some of the best house music I've heard in a long long while. That aside, King King has a great vibe. The crowd was pretty eclectic that one night. All different age groups just came there to enjoy the music with no pretentiousness or attitude. Can't wait to go back. The only negative is that parking is between $20 and $50. The parking attendants are also pretty douchy because they can arbitrarily choose pricing. I got charged $30. It's tough, but if you can, park somewhere else.
