I absolutely LOVE Yoshi's! I would have given it 5 stars except the restaurant is a tad bit expensive. But the venue is just gorgeous all the way around and there is no better place I love to see concerts because it's intimate, the concert tickets are inexpensive, and their calendar of concerts never disappoints! Acts that you DON'T want to miss: Pete Escovedo and Sheila E., Goapele, The Family Stone and Amel Larrieux...I've seen all of them multiple times at Yoshi's SF and Oakland and it's always been amazing concert. I highly recommend if you want to treat your special someone to a unique and special night out.

So good. Like, get sentenced to death row for murdering a guy that cut me in line on two-dollar taco tuesdays, and asking for two veggie tacos Nick's Way with a chips special as my last meal before being lethally injected good. Like, I don't give a crap if it's not "authentic", yes I know the mission has good mexican food but I don't live in the mission and I'm not about to get on the 49 for 20 minutes to get a freakin' taco when I live 5 minutes from this awesome place good. Like, yeah I could go and have a mariachi guitarist serenade me while I eat (happened in Taqueria Cancun), but sometimes its fun to go eat in what looks like an abandoned strip club made out of Hugh Hefner's old burgundy smoking jackets with blaring dub-step music good.

Yes. THIS. I had gotten many recommendations from my twitter followers that the Phoenix Hotel was a nice yet affordable place to stay. However, when I found out the affordable prices, and had the cab drop me on the edge of the tenderloin, I'm not going to lie; I was nervous. All in vein. This place is AMAZING. It's a little grotto of awesome in an area of crazy. The pool in the middle is surrounded by chairs, greenery, little resting cabanas and more, with beautiful art and fountains, creating this relaxing area in the middle of a bustling city. The rooms are themed in a slightly "70's rocker hotel meets Asian inspiration." I loved that they had a recycling bin IN the rooms -- first place I've seen that. Plus, we'd taken note joined the Joy of Life club, so our room came with a nice small bottle of wine, included. The bed was nice, the shower hot. Not a ton of space, but more than what we needed. The morning complimentary breakfast was delicious (and I loved that it didn't end at nine). Real tea (ie, more than lipton), bagels, pastries and more, and you could eat out by the pool, or take it back to your room. Brilliant! The staff, however, is what makes this place, Luke and Heather specifically. From suggestions of restaurants (vegetarian friendly, brunch, you name it) to calling timely cabs, they were incredibly helpful, more so than many a concierge I've worked with in hotels 2-3 times this price. Their customer service alone made staying here worth it. The few drawbacks; free wireless was from ATT, and was down half of our stay. There is a nightclub connected to the hotel, and 2 of the 3 nights, it was loud enough to put a pillow over my head. We also never figured out how to turn up the heat in the room. No matter; everything else made up for it. I don't give a ton of 5 stars, but this place definitely earned it. Looking forward to going back on our next trip!
