I love this bar! The patio is amazing and usually packed with people enjoying the BBQ and the friendly atmosphere (and I admit that I've been eye-ing the lemon trees all Summer to see if one would fall in someone's drink! No such awesomeness.). Tucked away... but, worth the hunt.

The $65 Chef's Omakase left me a bit disappointed on a previous visit but on our most recent dining excursion, we sampled more of the menu and it was stellar from top to bottom. One of my favorite things about this place is the incredible fish selection. You don't see a lot of these offerings at your average sushi bar. Highlights include the jellyfish with shiso (off the specials menu) --NOT to be missed-- and a stellar hamachi kama. Also, the sea urchin was utterly bright, fresh and sweet. Though I'm not a huge sake afficionada, I had a revelation with a sake we ordered called Suigei. The waiter told us it means Drunken Whale. At $14 / glass, it was quite pricey but trust me, it was well worth the splurge. You'll love it.

I've been to a bunch of jazz clubs in New York, and this is by far my favorite spot. It's totally the kind of place where other musicians go to check each other out and hang. It's a small place, with room for about 100 people and it's a ways uptown in Harlem. There's isn't too much going on in the surrounding neighborhood, but on the flipside, it just means that only folks in the know will make the trip to Smoke. The room has an intimate feel, with dark wood tables, antique chairs, cushy sofas, red velvet curtains, hanging chandeliers and candlelight flickering on the exposed brick walls. Most importantly, the music is great and the sound in the room is excellent. Unless there is a special event scheduled, there is no cover on weeknights (though I believe there is a drink minimum). On weekends, expect the cover to be around $20-30 depending on how big the acts are.
