Would you like to spend a lot of money in a nice atmosphere saturated with prototypical Hollywood types?  Oui?  Then you might as well come here, because at least you will also get good service and tasty food. The ambiance is cozier than you'd expect looking at the exterior--it's the eclectic/cozy library feel, similar to the bar area of the other Philippe Starck-designed hotel in the vicinity, the SLS.  We received a friendly greeting and were seated right away.  Our service was courteous, professional and efficient throughout.  The crowd is a little older earlier in the evening, and becomes younger, higher-heeled, and shorter-skirted as the night progresses.  This can be a good or bad thing, depending on your preferences. We started with cocktails, and they were all tasty.  My wacky margarita served up with a Grand Marnier foam was good, but I think I'll stick to a non-foamed drink in the future (it tasted good, but somehow, meringue-like topping doesn't belong on top of my tequila).  The white grapefruit cosmo was tangy and refreshing.  The by-the-glass wine list wasn't extensive, but they had some nice choices. Although it is certainly possible to get better food for the price in L.A., the dishes here were all at least good, and some were great.  We dined a-la-carte, and I think the portions were good-sized and satisfying.  The fried green tomato with burrata appetizer was surprisingly delicious.  I had the NY steak with hazelnut and arugula, which also came with Wagyu skirt steak with a light, fluffy horseradish sauce and some kind of reduction.  The NY steak had delicious flavor, wasn't as tender as I would expect, but was still good and prepared correctly.  The Wagyu skirt steak reminded me of beef shortrib in texture and flavor, and was extremely tender.  I actually couldn't finish the meat, there was so much of it.  The Thai snapper was crispy on the outside and moist and tender inside, but not particularly flavorful (especially in contrast to the meat dishes).  I didn't try the lamb, but my friend said it was delicious. We skipped dessert, and instead went out to the patio area to have a few more drinks.  We sat in a nice booth and watched the previously-mentioned short-skirted girls parade in.  We had personable and prompt service, and were diggin' the candlelit vibe.  It wasn't very crowded, but apparently when business picks up with warmer weather, the area is turned into a dancefloor.  This is the second time I've been here, and I haven't been disappointed with either visit....if I'm cruisin' the Sunset strip and feel like droppin' some coin, this is one destination I would hit up again.

Well, I did meat when I was in Austin. Way more than the old heart Doc would recommend. The sad thing is that I found Salt Lick at the end, in the airport. This was almost as good as Rudy's and it was in the airport. I had the brisket and the turkey, my standard comparison meal for this trip. The brisket was a little fatty, but it was still great. The turkey was excellent. The bread that came on the platter finished any remnants of sauce left on the plate. The sauce being slightly sweet, slightly spicy, but all delicious. The beans were good, but as a self-proclaimed cole slaw aficionado, I found the stuff from Salt Lick to be excellent. In the end, I was thankful and regretful. Thankful that I'd had Salt Lick, regretful that it was in the airport (where I suspect quality is below that found outside). Salt Lick is on my list for my next Austin trip, outside the airport for sure.

pretty good.  they have a good beer selection - draft and bottles - and an interesting menu.  plus, they're open later than anywhere else in the neighborhood.
