after hitting the independent, what to do? grab a quick drink or two. that's what we did and this is where we did it. real cool space, lots of wood and room. seating was ample and the crowd was cool. i had no idea that they served food here, but the alcohol was good. the bartenders are not in a hurry.

Keep in mind, I am typing this as I am munching on my Six Feet Under leftovers, so I am very biased :). We've been to this particular location twice, and both times we called ahead, knowing how busy they are. Other times, I went to the midtown location with my office crew. Both times we went to Memorial location, they screwed up our reservation and we still had to wait for our table. We are talking WAIT, not just a few minutes. The food was well worth the wait. It's superbly fresh, very flavorful, inventively concocted, simple in nature and consistent. Service is not the best, but is highly dependent on who's serving. We liked our waiter, he gave great suggestions on how to get the best bang for our buck, and everyone was pleased. I am a sucker for calamari, so I would almost always order those. Last time I wanted to try something different and got me the calamari tacos (yeah, not THAT different). The waiter made a mistake placing an order, and I got a plate of shrimp tacos instead. That was one delicious mistake! I was cool with it, but the waiter was trying to make up for this, and brought me a side plate of 1 calamari taco and another pile of calamari, just to top it off :) I brought most of it home with me, and as a result, am having a great lunch at work today. Hubby ordered the shrimp boil, and it was the freshest and most fragrant boil I ever tried. It came with a generous portion of corn on the cob and boiled potatoes. Kid got the quesadilla with fries, and she was happy. I have never seen her munching fries the way she did this time. Other folks got variations of shrimp, chicken and salads, and were all very very happy. Everyone loved the rat toes, despite of them looking rather creepy. I would recommend this place to the younger crowd who don't mind the wait, the noise, and lots of jalapenos in their food. Kid-wise it's ok, we got our coloring kit and were content. Bathroom is clean and is featuring Dyson hand dryers (+5 coolness points). The premises are well maintained and clean and staff is friendly.
