I can't exaggerate how good this place was. If you read through the negative reviews, a lot of time they complain about the pace. The pace is set by the complexity of the order and the chefs were incredibly fluid and impossibly talented; they produce art. Art does indeed take some time. The meats, rice, nori, etc is all top notch. I was also very impressed by the authentic sake pour =) I recommend sitting at the bar at this place so you can watch their great abilities.

So sue me. I actually like this hotel. I've never seen LiLo at Teddy's (on the couple of occasions when I've been there); I have seen a ton of low-level "actors" (mostly people from commercials and walk-ons for major shows) lounging at the pool on weekends when I've stayed here. *an aside* Can someone explain to me the whole "hanging at a hotel pool" when you live in that same city thing? Anyhow, the rooms here are all the same and yet very different. Try to get up to the Penthouse where there's a massive room-sized shower made for an orgy. Seriously (we snuck up there one drunk night). The best things about the Roosevelt? The ghosts. There's also an In-n-Out down the street and it's close to everything Hollyweird is famous for. If you're with a band, they have great industry rates (think about $100/night -- it's an awesome deal).

Ate here for my birthday last New Year's Eve. Loved the atmosphere and design! (I'm an "art" person.) The food was great and the sushi was some of the best I've ever had, although the portions on the "surf & turf" meals were rather humble. I, myself, ordered a type of salad, can't really remember since it was so long ago, but it was delicious! When we got there we had to wait for 2 people in our party before they would actually seat us, so we didn't get to sit in one of the cool "pods" because another group arrived after us, but all their members were there - so they got the pod. (Grrrrr.) We had fun anyway sitting around having drinks, exploring the way cool airplane like bathrooms, and watching the funky Japanese cartoons they were playing. I would say it's definately an event to go here. The only sucky part - on street parking has meters no matter what time of day...
