Went for a late dinner one evening. They had a great beer and wine selection. Their wine list had labels I had not seen before, it was fun to try something new. The waiter was very attentive and helpful. Though they were busy, the staff never ignored us. The margherita pizza was yummy! Just the right combination of ingredients. This was my second visit, my husband's first. He really enjoyed his dinner and beer, he will want to visit them again. Plus they are in the Manor Rd. area, which houses many of his favorite dining places. Their happy hour prices seem very reasonable, though we missed it that evening. Their patio seating is very relaxing on a nice, sunny afternoon. We are kind of pizza snobs, but this place has great pizzas.

I've got to say, I was a bit disappointed with Asia SF. For the amount of money you pay, you really don't get enough substance (of the culinary or entertainment variety). The girls: The performances were great, but really short. In the nearly 3 hours we were sitting there, the girls only perform 2 15-20 minute shows. The ladies were also very nice, but in that Hooters girl kind of way that feels not-entirely-genuine...they just want a big tip. Also, this is just a personal preference, but I like drag queens who are funny and have fabulous costumes, regardless of whether they really look like a woman or not. The ladies at Asia SF are something else entirely, they are gender illusionists, so they try as hard as possible to look like hot girls and put on a burlesque show. Impressive, sure...but in my opinion not as entertaining. The food: All and all, not bad, but the portions were small for the price tag. The salmon was delicious and fresh, but the "salad" under it was raw onion, tomato, and a few past their prime edamame with no dressing that I could taste. My friend's enjoyed the orange lamb/tofu, and the mushroom soba noodles were tasty, but the portion was tiny. The desserts were great though, the fried banana and green tea cheesecake were both top notch. We went on a Wednesday night (the night where you can choose food/drinks that add up to a minimum of $25) and our bill was still nearly $300 for 6 people with all the crazy taxes and mandatory 20% tip. Though I wish the performances were longer and the portions were bigger, I'm glad we went. However, I don't see a reason to come back, not when I can get a much better show for $5 at Aunt Charlie's.

I went a few times years ago for Club Dragon, a Friday night event for Asian gays and their admirers, but it really wasn't my scene. Club 8 has a new marketing manager creating new events and partnering with other promoters, like Joshua J for "Big Top" (one of my favorite club nights) and it's becoming a really fun venue. The club is an old Victorian house converted into a two-story club, with dance floors upstairs and down, three bars, and a covered side alley for smokers (or those who need fresh air). I did have a weird experience where two different bartenders at the front bar charged me higher prices than the bartenders at the back and upstairs bars did for the same drinks. Not sure if that was a misunderstanding, bar policy (unlikely), or shady bartenders, but from now on I'll use the upstairs or back bars when I order. They are currently only open Fridays and Saturdays, plus every other Thursday, so be sure to check the club's website for the week's schedule and events.
