by Bertie Y. on Looking at pictures for this place i thought this would be a cool place but boy was I wrong. Aside from the cool decor, this nightclub was a little disappointing. Thank god I didn't pay for the $20 cover. This place is soooo not worth it. I got in before 11 and was on the guest list and only paid $5. Still even at $5 it's not worth it. The night I went only 2 dance floors were open as the 2nd floor was closed off for a private party. The bottom floor/ basement was mainly hip hop and R&B. They played WAY too many old school songs and nothing really current. Don't get me wrong, hearing the old scholl stuff is like a throw back but an ENTIRE night of it gets pretty boring. My friends and I went to check out the main floor up stairs which plays trance/ house music and that wasn't good either. As for their drinks, they were weak, small and expensive. The bartenders here barely put any alcohol. Usually by the 3rd or 4th drink I get pretty typsy. Here...I was still very sober. =( Then the drinks that they put it in are these tiny little earth friendly tumblers that are pretty damn small and they want $12 for a cranberry vodka. Holy crap that's expensive! I usually can get it for like $9-10 at other bars and clubs. All in all I probably won't be coming back here after this experience.
by Kati Thomen on Okay, I love this place - I HATE paying a cover to go dancing, but the music here is always worth it. My review wouldn't be complete without the story of the last time I went, which was almost a year ago...I was traumatized! My friend and I were dancing our hearts away, sweating, grooving and I got thirsty. When I went to get my purse to buy a drink....it was GONE. I know, it's my fault for leaving it unattended - but in my defense, and I'm 31 now - I have been going out dancing since I was 16, and this has never happened to me. I was surprised, shocked, dissapointed and really mad - I know it must not be the first time it happened there - thieves have MOs, and whoever stole it was probably watching to see when I wasn't looking, and likely has done it before. I really wish that the club had posted some kind of notice about the problem. So - yes, go, but don't leave your purse out of your sight!!
by Bea N. on i find myself regularly daydreaming about thursday night RootDown at the little temple. if you like funk and nice people, you should come out. it's really that simple. i have never had a bad time at the rootdown. awesome music, and two separate areas to suit your funktastic taste. no one stands around looking too cool, because people go to get down. oh, and every once in a while the tamale man will be outside at the end of the night and it's like christmas for the soul and stomach at a buck twenty-five a pop (more or less). funk yeah.
