by Maryann Mcgeorge on Used to love this place...but had the most unfortunate experience last night... Some friends had a wonderful event lined up for the evening, "Cairo Nights"- Full Egyptian show featuring Sonia Ochoa & Aubre Hill. Two AMAZING dancers and live drumming by Donavon... The club owners simply did not show up to open the venue. I repeat, they simply DID NOT SHOW!! The dancers, musicians, photographers and fans were left lined up outside for hours, waiting and hoping we hadn't been forgotten. Well, we had. After 2 hours, the ladies putting on the show were forced to announce that the show was cancelled (after numerous efforts to contact the club owners) and needed to be rescheduled. Neddless to say, it won't be here. Shame too...such a pretty venue. But pisspoor buisness ethic. Just sayin'.
by Richard L. on TL:DR - Waitresses and bar staff gave TERRIBLE service It seemed like a chill spot i suppose. I didn't get that feeling b/c the service was terrible. Everyone says the service was great. While it wasn't hard to get a table on a tuesday, getting the waitress to come by and take our order took forever. (forever being 45 minutes to get a menu) I looked around and noticed it's all korean (i'm not) suddenly a korean couple sat next to us and got instant service, drinks and even 2 waitresses serving them. Neither of which turned to even see if we wanted more to drink. Yeah maybe it was just a bad night...but this instant makes me NEVER WANT TO VISIT AGAIN.
by Michelle S. on Cue Music: http://www.youtube.com... I have a love/hate relationship with dancing in the SOMA. The clubs in the SOMA are in abandoned warehouses that are a different theme night each night. Once you turn 18, you come to know some of these clubs very well...as the X, Roderick's Chamber, Faith, and City Nights were the only places we could go. Once we turned 21, we were able to broaden our dance cards...literally. As a youth, dancing in SF was big for me. It was so big that I made monthly trips up from San Luis Obispo in order to get some city exposure. However, it wasn't long before all dance clubs were the same to me. You had to dress up (which is fine), you had to pay a lame cover, you had to pay to check your coats, and all the men were pretty much the same drunk, undersexed, popped collar douchebags. If you've had as many tools come up FROM BEHIND YOU and try to dry hump their premature erections into your leg as I have, you would eventually wonder whether they pop Viagra instead of Ecstacy and you make yourself take a dance club hiatus for a very, very very long time. Or does that only happen to me?! ANYWAY, a good friend of mine (the same friend who once dragged me to a goth club...but that's a story for another time) dragged me to Leisure last year. She knows me well and knows that some of my favorite bands are Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Who, The Cure, The Rolling Stones, etc. She PROMISED that creepy men wouldn't dry hump me and that I would have a great time. And she was right. I tried coming back every first Saturday night for more. The crowd is really there to dance and have a good time. The crowd wears everything from fun dresses, to jeans, to the shaggy hair and skinny ties. The cover isn't terrible. The drink prices aren't terrible. There is kareoke upstairs. The DJ spins great tunes...some old beloved songs and some new stuff that I always end up Shazaaming on my phone for future download when I get home. I've always had a great time... I always find myself dancing like nobody is watching...and they probably aren't because everyone is dancing in their own element as well. I find myself dancing so much that my contact lenses even manage to get misplaced and crooked inside my eyesockets...this is impressive considering that I've passed out wearing them more times than I care to admit with no problems. That was probably a weird image, literally...but I really need to express how fun this place really is. The best time to get there is just before midnight because that's when it starts getting busy. The DJ does sometimes mess up and accidentally play American or Australian bands. But if you like British Invasion, Mod, Madchester type music, this place will be very fun for you. I am very sad that last night is my last night at Leisure. :( I will miss it very much.
