by Rob Kalista on A friend told me about this place. This friend also told me about their open bar happy hour on Sundays. 2 hours. All you can drink. No cover. Check, check, and CHECK! Dangerous thing? Sunday night. Gotta thank Mom and Dad for the good no hangover genes! So off we went. Stood outside for a bit to get admitted. Once you enter, you notice the couches. The dimmed lights. Huge chandeliers. Very cozy and all to the tunes of pumping music. The open bar? I mean, seriously? No cover? 2 hours? Makes the field trip worth the while. I even met up with some friends I had not seen for some time. Makes for a good time.
by jenny w. on This is one of my favorite bars in San Francisco. Whether you want to talk 1:1, go with a group, or hang out with strangers, the atmosphere works. I've been on dates here, celebrated birthdays, shown out of town guests a good time, and just hung out with friends on a slow night; it is always fun. I hate hate hate karaoke but I love listening to non-competitive, relaxed, fun singers all night long. Some of the best performers in SF stop by, without seeming like they are hogging the mic or putting pressure on anyone else to sing as well. Plenty of novices get up to the mic, too, and the atmosphere helps even the worst of them create a little magic . Whether it is Rogers and Hart or Lady GaGa, I never want to run screaming from the room (the way I do at karaoke). The drinks are tasty and are dangerously strong. The menu is diverse, amusing, and worth sampling from. The bartenders and wait staff are always helpful (particularly with drink suggestions). Practical: There is great public transit with plenty of cabs outside. The dim lighting makes everyone get cozy, which is great for meeting new people or getting to know old friends even better.
