I normally do not review clubs because I believe they are all based on people's actual experience there and not necessarily the service or venue, but whenever I have a story to tell about a place, you best believe it's going to end up on rateclubs. I came here on Saturday night with a relatively large group of people. But when we actually got into the club, our group had pretty much disintegrated to about half of what it was. The night started off the ways most club nights do. Pre-partying at somoene's house, then cabbing it over to the venue because drinking and driving is bad and against the law. Knowing that the guestlist here closes at 11pm (a fact that we verified over the phone more than once that day), we called for the cabs at 9:45 and were in line by 10:15pm. Plenty of time to get into the club before the 11pm cut-off right? WRONG. GUESTLIST DOES NOT EXIST AT MANOR WEST! If I have ever seen a line being purposely held until the guest list closed, this was it. I mean, it was so f'ing obvious that they were holding the line that my friends and I pretty much were trying to decide if we were gonna spend $20 here to get in or $12 to go to bootie around the corner. The decision was to do what you do at clubs when the cover charge is inevitable, you send the cutest girls in your group to the bouncer and see what kind of deal you can get for bottle service. First verdict, all girls can go in, but they need to pay cover. Guys have to wait in line. Great deal. Next, send one guy with the girls. 770 for a 2 bottles, good for 12 people. Not bad. Comes out to about $65 per person. Hmmm, a little steep and its already 10:55pm, let's just wait in line and at 11pm, they should start moving the line. WRONG AGAIN! Line is being held, the buzz is starting to wear off, and now frustration starts to set in. Part of the group heads over to the bouncers again to see if we can get in because apparently, all these other VIPs are just walking into the special line. I know that all those people could not have possibly had bottle service because its not that big in there. Somehow, during this final exchange, the giant samoan bouncer guy makes my friend cry. I do not think I have ever seen a girl cry from being verbally abused by a bouncer. Isn't it part of the job to remain calm and patient as you are surrounded by a bunch of drunk people trying to get in the club? Bouncers are there to help maintain order at a place. Clearly, this guy was absent during that day of bouncer training class. Just as a visual, my friend is about 5'3 or so, petite, cute asian girl. Bouncer is maybe 6'3" and 350lbs. So it was like the big bear vs. goldilocks in a stare down. Most people would just leave at this point, but one of the guys in our group was really adamant about going in and not wanting to waste the night, we waited and finally got in around maybe 11:30 or so? I have no idea, when you are holding whatever is in your bladder for over 20 min, you start to have blackout moments. This was one of them. The club itself is pretty nice. It is not huge, but also not so small that you are sucking in your gut just to make it in between the crowds. Speaking of which, the club was pretty empty for what we saw outside. In fact, I would even say that there were more people standing outside the club than inside the club. And, the ratio inside wasn't even that great. There were definitely more guys than girls in there, but not too bad. Most guys just wall flower it anyway. The music was pretty good and the mixes weren't too sketchy but it was just your average top 40 with some bay area songs mixed in. There is only one bar there with 3 bartenders, but surprisingly we never really waited too long for drinks. Our bartender, Deanna (sp?), was super cool, smoking hot, and poured us some pretty good drinks. Would I ever come back here agin? Maybe, but the line is definitely a turn-off and same with the $20 cover charge. Also, the club is 99.9% asian people, so if that is not your thing, you probably do not want to come here. The only reason I gave this place 3 stars was because of our bartender and because there is actually space to dance.

This place is so quintessentially L.A....Old Hollywood glamor that even the recent modern upgrades cannot hide the fact that this place is a Hollywood institution. A few months back I flew down to LA to hang out with a friend of mine, who I hadn't seen in years, and who was in town recording an album. Typically, we went out like rock-stars, and come Saturday morning, we were looking for some rest, relaxation, and general diversion. A friend of his, a fan of their band, was posted up at the Roosevelt pool. He recommended that we join him, and after mustering up the courage to NOT sleep all day, we did so. Walking into and through the hotel is classic Hollywood: classic Spanish decor and style throughout the interior. It almost has the feel of an old Spanish adobe mission: high drafty ceilings, deep red clay tile floors, large rustic birch beams seeming to hold everything together. After walking through the dimly lit lounge with leather couches and a library feel, we went out to the pool. The pool is what one would expect, but the bar/lounge and atmosphere was fantastic. I half-expected that there would be a crowd full of muscle-bound roidheads and fake-boobied blonds, but that was not the case. Rather, the crowd was a mellow mix of chill people relaxing in clusters of friendly conversation, sipping on bloody mary's, mimosas, margaritas and the like. We met our friends sitting at a table adjacent the pool. Around the pool are plush lounge chairs, cabanas, tables, not to mention the full bar service and wait-staff. In typical LA-fashion everyone we met was an aspiring actor, producer, or otherwise "in the business." Working that angle some sketch-ball asked us for our business cards explaining that he was "no LA flake"...yes, he was. In the spirit of proper one-upsmanship, these self-proclaimed "Hollywood players" were practically competing to cover our tabs. The pool-side area gradually filled in as we sipped our cocktails in the mid-day sun. Soon, we were mixing it up with a group of attractive girls who were there to celebrate a birthday. As the libations sunk in, people began to break away from the safe clusters of friends with whom they arrived, and began to mingle among cabanas. As the day drew to a close, sadly we had to depart, but not without the satisfaction of a great afternoon with some very interesting people. Overall, a great spot to enjoy the Southern California sun while enjoying a cocktail and the company of a wide mix of folks. What a great day!!!!

Meat Katie had a great set after the Love Fest at Temple. This venue has to have one of the best sound systems in sf. I'm all about the music. The music rocked last night! Hey Paul, you gotta get Sen-Sei to make an appearance here. He will rock it like he usually does.
