an impromptu dinner after drinks over at laszlo. it was sunday afternoon - pretty empty. were greeted by the manager who was so gracious, polite and accommodating - he maintained contact with us throughout our dinner, in addition to our waitress. he brought special sides, free samples & made wonderful food recommendations. the four of us got to share : - Sesame Crusted Tempura Shrimp, Grapefruit Reduction, Avocado-Grapefruit Salad - Crispy Sweet Potatoes, Goat Cheese, Harissa Powder, Honey - County Line Baby Green Salad, Bartlett Pears, Toasted Almonds, Blue Cheese - Fried Sumac-Dusted Calamari, Red Onions and Lemons with Aioli - Chicken with Almond-Pomegranate Sauce - Medjool Sampler with Hummus, Tabbouleh and Baba Ghanouj - Brined Pork Tenderloin on a bed of Chorizo and White Bean EVERYTHING was delicious - interesting and complimentary flavors. the calamari had deep fried meyer lemon slices mixed in - perfect accompaniment. the chicken with pomegranate was DIVINE. i could have eaten 6 plates of it alone. the sweet potatoes with cheese and honey - to die for. it was plenty of food for us - i had a couple glasses of sparkling wine. the patio upstairs is GORGEOUS and has an unparalleled view of the city - but it was so windy and chilly when we were there - we weren't dressed properly to dine outside. next time : i will wear layers and be prepared to be able to sit upstairs - it was so beautiful up there. and i will leave room for dessert. it kinda broke my heart to not have finished off the meal having sampled whatever deliciousness they may have had. LOVED THIS PLACE.

From the outside, seems all good. Big bouncers. Check. Nice attire. Check. Music bumpin. Check. You walk inside, and first thing: $20 cover - even for girls! OK OK... that's fine. This place probably warrants a fancy price. Walk upstairs, check out the scene... h***ll no! I have to give it to the DJ - his music was really good and kept the energy up. Though he was a bit ADD with his mixes (switching every 60 seconds or so), I still enjoyed the variety from hip hop, mainstream, bit of rock, bit of techno, bit of latin flavor... good stuff. So what're my gripes? The place looks like it's full of spring breakers dressing up for a night out. Maybe it's the night I went out (Sat), but it was a bit young and tasteless (I had to find another word for "trashy" since trashy was too harsh). The upstairs had VIP tables, which could be a lot of fun if I was with a bunch of friends. However, as the night progressed, people got downright freaky. At least they moved aside from dry-humping when I politely excused myself to pass them, as they were straddling the narrow walk-way leading towards the back bar. Downstairs is where the main scene's at. But when there's a runway-stage-style dance floor as the main center point, the focus is going to be on whoever's up there. And whoever's up there is will most likely be a female drunk out of her mind. I'm calling out the girls b/c they kick guys off right when they go up... which is hilarious btw, so all you guys should go up there! Not as much of a dance club as it was a dance show. At least the girls had good fun when they were up there and weren't slutting themselves out, but still. Esate's not that bad, but it's just not my scene. Had much higher expectations for this place, and would MUCH rather hit Gypsy a block down or explore some new clubs.

I've slowly acclimated to restaurants nestled in strip malls. But when some friends recommended I reserve a meal for the _airport_ I was taken aback. I encounter a bit of a queue; perhaps the BBQ lives up to the recommendation. Tender brisket smothered in a sweet sauce. Smoked sausages. Crunchy slaw. I'm by no means a BBQ expert, but this must be how it should be! This isn't just good for an airport, it's good for anywhere! Thinking back, I should have ordered that whole brisket to go.
