by Chantel Lotshaw on My friends and I came here for a special House DJ last week and we had a blast! Yes, there was a cover. Yes, there was a mandatory coat check. Yes, the girl bartender overcharged one of us for drinks (I suggest you order drinks from the guy bartender and ask him how much each drink is.) BUT, and this is a huge BUT... Cielo rocked! Everyone was having a great time dancing, the drinks were tasty, the music kicked ass, the sound system was clear, the atmosphere was surprisingly not pretentious, AND there is an outdoor area in the back where you can smoke. It's pretty sweet. The dance floor was decent (watch out for the steps), and it wasn't so dark that you had to go stumbling around. It's just a happy place. lol. Also, there were some ridiculously good looking people at Cielo. And hey, if that's okay with you, you should definitely go here.
by jake r. on We went here on Weds. for my roomates birthday. The elevator up to the lounge is a lot of fun, and the whole really dark/heavy curtains/GORGEOUS view/2 bar thing is definetely nice. The crowd was really odd. There were some very old people and some some young beautiful types, and literally everythign in between. Honestly, I thought it made for a very interesting mix. I coulda done without the dueschy 35-55 y/o bankers laming up the joint, looking awkward and sexually frustrated but also pompous and monied. Oh well, I guess even suckers need somewhere to drink on a Weds. There's a dance floor, it was perfectly adequate, there's TONS of seating which is great, and the music was relatively average, which I expected. I wish I could give 3.5 stars, but oh well. It doesn't 4. But it does warrant a visit if you've never been. Just take some friends, because it's a real crap shoot on the crowd.
by Karsten P. on Sometimes it's not all about the place -- sometimes it's about who you go there with. Sometimes you go with your high-maintenance, drama-generating friend who cleans up fabulously, but then undoes all the good work by binge-drinking and sassing security to the point that they almost boot the whole pack of us. Sometimes your 'binging but beautiful' friend tries to do a Cher, and Turn Back Time - by which I mean she refuses to accept that it's 2:30 and we are not getting any more liquor. Sometimes "the bottles are RIGHT THERE --" is not a valid explanation for why you should be given a drink. Sometimes the vibe created by good music and a relatively interesting-looking space can be unravelled by ten seconds at the center of the funkiest-smelling dance floor I have ever been on, and that includes two rainy, mud-encrusted Lollapalooza mosh pits (yeah shut up, so I'm dating myself). I mean there is nothing wrong with catching a little sniff of someone else; I mean, sometimes it's a little, you know, special . . . but we're talking full-on Flehmen response-inducing barnyard action here. We all looked at each other and we were out in five minutes, tops. ADDENDUM: okay, pushing my rating up because I went again and saw the Groove Junkies and Chuck Love, and the music was crazy, and the crowd was friendly and happy. Still smells a little like ass though.
