by andy t. on This place is just cool. In the interest of full disclosure, I must say that I haven't been to many jazz clubs. And it's totally possible that clubs downtown, as opposed to uptown Smoke, are a notch above. But I seriously doubt it because Smoke is one cool cat. They know their genre and have done a great job of creating a mood and a venue to listen to serious jazz. And hey, it's not like uptown has never heard jazz before -- Harlem is home to many of the greats. So, if you've never been to Smoke or thought about going, make a reservation and catch some live jazz. Even better, bring a date, this is the kind of place that chicks dig. One more thing: I spied on some tables enjoying the food and it all looked great, though I would rather eat elsewhere and just enjoy the jazz with some scotch or wine.
by Kati Wellnitz on My ex-manager took me here. We didn't make reservations so clearly we didn't get a table. (Nothing was available till 10pm, note to self: make reservations if u want a table) However, they let u order the full menu if u sit at the lounge downstairs or by the bar on the mezzanine. So we went up to the bar and ordered some cranberry sodas and looked at the menus. I had rateclubsed this place before I came and found out the kobe beef and chilean sea bass were high recommended. Unfortunately u can't have the kobe beef at the bar because its shabu-shabu. So I had the sea bass instead and it was DELICIOUS! It was smooth and tasty with its miso. I also recommed the Crispy tuna sashimi as an appetizer. Crunchy and raw at the same time. YUM..of course, who could miss the giant Buddha and extra large chinese scrolls on the ceiling with insanely large chinese characters that could kick ur a$$. The decor is fusion-asian, typical of any place fashioned like this. Kinda reminded me of Buddha Bar. I'm definitely coming back. And this time, I'll make reservations and order the Kobe beef Shabu shabu! :P
by jackie v. on This is the kind of place that I wish was down the street from my house. Maybe its a good thing that its all the way in the TL or else I'd be there like everyday! This place is chill, bartenders are pretty laid back and friendly, have some decent DJs spinnin' good music... I have only been a handful of times. I wish I wasn't too lazy to go here regularly. I think the reason I immediately liked it is because it reminded me of some of the dives my friend took me in NYC. Some girl was puking her ass off in one of the bathrooms the whole time and one of the bartenders was nice enough to light up some incense downstairs so we didn't choke on her puke smell.
