This is a restaurant review. We went to Minx last night and had excellent service and excellent food. Admittedly I read the rateclubs reviews prior to entering the establishment, but they are mostly written by angry club goers. As far as restaurant service and food is concerned it was great. The drinks were quite stiff--club drinks, I should have ordered wine. The food however was excellent. I had the "Surf & Turf" which consisted of a short rib that was really tender, with wild mushroom risotto and garlic shrimp. I love mushrooms, and the risotto really hit the spot. It was on the salty side but I'm used to eating plain jasmine rice with my entrees. The shrimp was fresh and not too buttery. That was one thing I noticed, last time I had risotto it was way too buttery. But here it was the perfect mushroom mish mash. The hubs had a filet Mignon and he said it was the best he's had...for a good while. It came with sides of green beans and mashed potatoes. Properly medium rared. Mmmm the mashed potatoes were really good. He also had a feta/tomato green salad that was tasty. We shared a plate of calamari--it was good, it was not tempura as the waiter mentioned though...thank goodness. ha. For dessert was a marscapone cheesecake with berries. Oh was that good. I had the last bites of that. I was stuffed with risotto and still wanted more. Needless to say we walked away stuffed and happy. Oh the service was excellent--but they really try too hard. Maybe it was the fact that we were the only table in the section--it is nice to have a waiter all to yourselves once in a while but really, refilling water after the first sip? I'm sure it would have been more natural had there been more of a crowd. But it was a Tuesday night in...Glendale.

I'm in love with the crab spring rolls and lobster rolls and wild mushroom fried rice - but for the price, i better be!! the drinks, trendy cocktails that are mixed and named by color are superb as well. the decor is hip, the crowds are usually attractive, so it makes for a fun night. I'd recommend sitting in the 'pods' at least once - if you have a group, call in advance for a reservation, and you sit in these futuristic plastic shells that change color when you push a button. Then again, don't go with kids, who'll do that too often.

I don't go to El Rio nearly as much as I should considering how much I like this place. I rarely have to wait long at the bar to get a drink, even when its busy, because the bartenders are on top of their shit... they don't mess around! And they're usually pretty nice too. You can play pool, you can dance, you can learn how to salsa, you can pick tunes on the jukebox... What more do you need? As if that isn't enough, there is a HUGE, pretty backyard full of plants. They have pretty decent shows here even though 've only been to two here. I usually go for the atmosphere (lotsa different types of people) and the yard. There's nothin' like drinkin' a beer while kicking back with a few friends under the sky on a nice night!
