by Preston J. on Went here while in town for business and enjoyed it. The bad part of the visit was the fact that the Cleveland Browns were pulverizing the New York Giants on the tube. Other than that, the free popcorn, pool tables, beer on tap (love the Anchor Steam) and relaxed dive-bar atmosphere reminded me of some of the similar establishments I enjoy back in New York.
by Win D C. on This cute little record store is quite a gem among the overabundance of lingerie and "urban" apparel boutiques that seem to be taking over the South Street district. I was in Philly for the first time for a weeklong conference and wasn't quite sure how to go about exploring purely on foot. I initially ended up in the South Street area while searching for Fluid Nightclub. By happenstance, I noticed Repo's little facade and proceeded to enter. What I found was a quaint record store not unlike the ones I used to frequent during my college days. There was a healthy selection of indie, rock, pop, and soundtracks, with the dusty vinyl goodies in the basement. I thought the prices were pretty decent for used CDs, particularly since several of their used imports were 10 dollars cheaper than previous purchases I had made of the same album. The highlight, however, was talking to Crystal, who was working the front desk that night. She was extremely knowledgeble about many genres of music and was very friendly. What started with my comment about Gilberto Gil proceeded to a wonderful "nerd-out" session about indierock, local artists, and other hip places to visit in the area. I felt like it was a scene straight out of "High Fidelity," and enjoyed every moment. Strangely enough, I ended up not going to Fluid and called it an early night, having discovered what I probably would not have found in a noisy club. With my freshly purchased Gilberto Gil album in its nifty Repo Records bag, I can proudly proclaim that the charm of this brick-and-mortar record store is not just the music but the total interactive experience; something you can't get these days with $0.99 mp3, or free download, for all you deviants;)
by Lita Widmer on My friend (who is a lesbian) had her birthday party here. So, naturally, there are going to be gay guys attending. WELL... the bouncer kept turning males away because they have to enter with a girl. We had to find the manager/owner and ask him to let this rule slide just so we could get in. WHAT THE F! we also reserved a table and got a bottle. We had to ask the bartender for shot glasses, and all they would give us was 4. So taking birthday shots in turns was also a fun experience. The prices were ridiculous for the teaspoon of liquor in the drinks. i will never go back there... ps the bouncer told girls that they could not slide down the slide, cause they were wearing dresses, and they didnt want to clean up any snail trails. What a classy place!
