by Christy R. on I'm usually an Nino's fan. I've been there no less than 5 times since moving here and that's plenty to be out on Cheshire Bridge. Now, my dinner date last night suggested we go to Alfredo's. My thought: "Why not?!" Let me start out by saying that you can't beat the genuine nature of this atmosphere. Walking in there you automatically feel like you're part of the loud & pushy Italian family you've never had. The atmosphere is lively & full of die-hard Alfredo's fans. Apparently, if you started eating there in the 70's, you're still eating there. Nonetheless, I ordered the Spinach linguine with mushrooms & panchetta with Alfredo sauce. It was pretty darn yummy! Aside from that, I'd say their bread is disappointing to say the least. I'm stunned that an italian joint can deliver anything but perfect bread! So that was a knock against them. The waitor, while trying to be helpful, was mostly just pushy. We ordered a bottle of wine and were told that he had better suggestions. Ouch. All in all, I wouldn't go there again for the price of the food nor the quality of food but it's worth it just to kill the cat's curiosity.
by Jaimie M. on Stopped in here for a couple of happy hour bevs yesterday afternoon around 6ish on the way to a screening at the Metreon. We grabbed a booth by the window and ordered a round of drinks from the sweet bartender. A round was only $7 and they were offering a complimentary appetizer of the day during happy hour - yes please! We sat back for a few minutes, enjoying the space, which is really cute and relaxing feeling. I like the dark colors, photography on the walls and the curtain made of strings of mother of pearl shells. The downstairs set-up was a bit odd, with another bar and coat racks set up near the restrooms. Our server brought over the appetizer, which was a plate of yuca chips topped with pulled pork. So delish! If we had more time, I would have definitely ordered a few of the other small plates for sure. Overall, cute space, nice service and a great value during happy hour. They had a nice drinks menu that piqued my interest, so I'd be back for an event or at another low-key time, not sure if I'd brave the Saturday night madness described in other reviews though.
by Virgil Brinkman on I went here the other night for a designer's after-show party. We started upstairs where the scene was very loungey but the free Skyy and Peroni kept everyone out of the tables and gathered by the bar. As soon as the open bar was up at 12 the upstairs cleared out and my friends and I moved the party downstairs. Luckily the open bar did me in and I didn't have to pay for the over-priced drinks there. I enjoyed the atmosphere/decor downstairs a lot though. Way more clubby than the upstairs with the room's perimeter line with bench type tables and the entire middle of the room was a long catwalkesque dance platform which I took full advantage of. I thought the crowd was pretty diverse and the type of place you could feel comfortable in jeans or a dress. Although the violinist was talented and an interesting change of pace, I wasn't really loving the music selection. I wouldn't go out of my way to return but would definately go back if there was another event I wanted to attend.
