by Tiffany D. on I came here on a Friday night about 8 with some friends of mine. When I arrived the free valet was great, the hostess real sweet. But once I sat down in the open seating area it was horrible. I had someone other than my cocktail waitress get my drink order and she pointed to my waitress saying that she will be serving me. Well my suppose to be waitress dropped of my drink and said nothing to me and went back to a table of young men she was talking to prior. Well so my girlfriends and I just got the waitress that helped us with our drinks, when we first sat to serve us and the poor girl had a lot of tables already because "little miss I want to flirt with boys was to busy". Service got better, music was good my friends and I where having a good time but when the food came it tasted terrible. We all got sushi rolls, the fish was dried out, and the rice you could tell was over cooked. Spending $50 a piece for dried out sushi and drinks I could of just stayed home, went to Kroger get sushi a bottle of wine and called it a night. Well I know I will not go to Aja for sushi, maybe the entrees are better , but all I can say is that the valet and hostess where great, everything else OK.
by Jackie R. on This place is a real gem in the city and the inside of the hall is beautiful! We came here for a wedding reception and the staff was very professional and helpful. I'd like to see a music act in this venue as I'm sure it's great. The architecture of this venue is amazing and extremely detailed. It's so vintage and so well taken care of on the inside, I hope SF preserves this place for years to come. They have beautiful chandeliers hanging from the decorated ceilings and a great dance floor below. This venue is large enough for receptions, parties, intimate concerts and more.
by Audrea Meer on Good happy hour. Huge selection of martinis, along with a variety of apps, light meals, and a few desserts. The martinis (normally $12 - $14 on the menu) are half-price during happy hour, although just so you know, they are all $7 which is not technically half price, depending which ones you order. Still, this is a really good deal. The martinis are served with the shaker and you really get about a martini and a half's worth. The food is also half price during happy hour. The fruit and cheese plate was delicious -- huge portion of cheeses. We ended up needing two refills of crackers. The spinach and artichoke dip, served with pita triangles, was nothing special. It was kind of soupy. So I'd say go with the fruit and cheese plate, and order extra crackers to begin with. My first martini, the key lime, was not great. It was half-filled with whipped cream, which I had to scoop out. The martini itself isn't very lime-y and would have been better with vanilla vodka rather than plain. I ordered the blue martini next, but honestly it was so disgusting I had to send it back. The service started out okay but got pretty pitiful as the place got more crowded.We sat on the patio, which was peaceful and nice but I really wish they didn't allow cigars :( Even with the fans going, you still get hit with a strong whiff if anyone is smoking one. The inside is large, with several rooms and a huge bar area. They have live music every night. Very cool. It's definitely an older crowd, which is kind of nice because it's more mellow. Even though I wasn't crazy about my martinis, I'd gladly go back for another happy hour and try some of the others.
