by Phoebe W. on Came here on a date with my husband on Saturday. The atmosphere reminds me of Tao in NY with a big Buddha in the middle and with the Asian fusion menu. Everything we had was really good and flavorful (emperor roll, bbq pork buns and chicken curry). Our waitress was super nice and prompt and we never felt we had to wait too long for food. Something I would mention is that the main entrees are meant to share and therefore are huge! One entree and one or two appetizers is enough to feed two with maybe some leftovers. Highly recommend this place for a group meal or a date - loved it! PS. There is a dress code here which I didn't know before we got there. I was fine, but just wanted to note it here in case anyone else was wondering.
by Kelly W. on This review is on the dancing... not the food. I was getting down on dancing in this city. I was on board for the big electronic music scene in 2000, but over time the scene became incredibly repetitive... same people, same music, same everything... and the reality no longer lived up to the hype the way it used to. And besides, I'm a breaks girl... hands down. Finding good breaks is next to impossible these days with the glitch & constant house overload. I think I've found a good compromise though at Little Baobab. I first found the music at this place during carnival & I loved the vibe. I've started going on the occasional Friday night for some really great African fusion that gives me the syncopation of breaks, the hip action from the latin influences, and a generally good crowd. It's small, sweaty, and crowded as hell, but I'm completely down with the hibiscus drinks and fun djs. It's a place where you might get groped, but it's also a place where someone could be asking you to dance because they genuinely want to DANCE with you. Refreshing.
by Barry Kuboushek on Nick took me to this place for my first food in Philly. Outstanding decor: round room done in shades of cyan with a hanging galaxy planetoid chandalier taking up the central space and glowing in orange and green, with a wood lined bar in the back that serves exotic martini's to this UPenn crowd. The second floor balcony has ultra comfortable booths with couch-like seats on each side. Deep round porthole windows and glass tiled walls. The outer ring has hanging chairs with tables in between. The downstairs facilities are even done uniquely. Check it out for a surprise: they can see you, but you can't see them. It's tasteful, don't freak out. Relax. I ordered the miso soup to start. Excellent. Reminds me of Dojo's miso in NYC. Very hardy, with lots of shitake, tofu, sea weed and sobo noodles at the bottom. Served with a spoon and chopsticks. I then ordered something standard to see if they did it right. Club sandwich. And they did it! It was tall, almost too tall to get my maw around; thick bacon, real sliced turkey breast with plenty of mayo and sliced roma tomato and some delicious kind of lettuce I couldn't identify. The fries were done perfectly, like McDonalds used to do when Julia Child proclaimed them the Frenchiest french fry. Mickey D's has long since ruined their french fry by getting rid of the lard, but the humble french fry lives here. So go. Enjoy. Attactive staff and clientel. This is an excellent Diner. Somebody better hurry before QT films a movie scene here. Nick had eggs benadict with smoked salmon. He liked it a lot. Gotta go again and work my way through the menu. This place is a keeper.
