My best friends and I spent NYE 2011 at Sugar Cafe/Cellar. I know Sugar is an actual cafe that turns into a loungy club at night -- so I can't really speak for the day time. Even though it was open bar on NYE, we decided to get bottle service - which is NICE because NYE or not, Sugar/Cellar doesn't have a restriction on the number of people in your party - you basically just pay a minimum of $300 (for your first bottle), plus any additional bottles and gratuity - and you get access to both venues. Sugar is definitely more chick, with cute pink lighting. Our hostess Andrea was the biggest sweetheart - always on top of everything, really quick and attentive with any of our needs (as well as pouring our drinks). If anything, I would have given this review the extra 2 stars because of her. The downfalls? I know they had to make a separate bottle service contract due to the fact that it was a special event, but it was really annoying finalizing our reservations. I called to reserve a table a week before Christmas, and was told I'd receive the contract via-email within 24 hours. The contract wasn't actually emailed to me until the Tuesday before NYE. I must have called 5 times, and each time I spoke to someone new telling me the contract would be sent. When it came down to it, it turned out they didn't even have my email on file when I'd given it to them each time I had to call. Although it's technically more of a lounge, they definitely could have done a better job with the music. It was pretty low, and you could hear other people's drunken conversations all the way in the back of the venue. All-in-all, the NYE price for bottle service, as well as the unlimited head count was definitely worth the money we paid. It came out to $420-ish for a bottle of Stoli, Grey Goose, and champagne -- as well as any additional drinks/shots we'd ordered from the bar, and complimentary chocolate covered strawberries and bottled waters. Definitely good times.

If you are looking for a dark crowded place to dance and possible meet a few girls, then this is as good a place as any. That's what my friends and I were looking to do last Saturday and Middlesex Lounge certainly provided a decent venue. The DJ was solid, playing a great mix of old and new hip hop. The line to get in was really long when we first went there, so we went for a few drinks next door and went back later on. The line for the bathroom was ridiculous. Definitely not a place for everyone, but pretty fun overall.

Although it can get a little too club-ish for me in this place, there's just something about Vertigo that I really like. It's a pretty cool atmosphere and the drinks are fantastic. And if you get really bored with the dorks you're with, just kick back and watch Hitchcock's masterpiece that is constantly on loop.
