by Tiny H. on This is a review for only the dance club and drinks. I have never had dinner at Baobab. The music is wonderful. Brilliant soul moving beats and sometimes they play Indian and other world music, too. Minus 1 star for the size of the dance floor. The dance floor is quite small and does get VERY crowded and nearly impossible to move at times, the only drawback. The entrance fee is cheap. The men at the club are respectable and do not attempt the normal "club humping" style dance moves. The drinks are also reasonably priced and quite delicious. Not your normal bar drinks. If memory serves me well, they have hibiscus and ginger infused cocktails that are quite yummy! Baobab is my favorite place to dance in the city.
by Sara M. on I've gone to a few parties here. All of which have been good times. The music: The Latin room is the closest you'll get to real Latin music without going further uptown. The hip hop room plays a lot of old stuff. The crowd: Mainly older. You can tell because the women put gel in their hair and the men tuck their sweaters into their pants. Should you come? If you're the type who likes to meet people in clubs, then no. Although I must add, why would you want to meet someone in a club??? If you're the type who wants to dance salsa w/ a salsero, then come here on a Tuesday afterwork. If you're the type who wants to drink out of a plastic cup and dance to B.I.G. with your people, then come here. Plus after a night of dancing you can go to Gray's Papaya on Broadway. That alone is the best selling point.
by Leanne Weirauch on Monday night fights! Monday is dollar drink night and they come from everywhere it seems to get $1 PBR or Bud Light. The music is loud and the neighbors don't care, so rock out and then chill out in the tiki hut. Monday's are your opportunity to get off your highfalutin San Francisco ass and mingle with the common folk.
