So this was my second time going to BLVD3. Definitely the spot to hit up. I got a table with a bunch of my friends. Thanks Mark for hooking it up. Ended up getting Patron, Goose and Champagne for under $750 which included everything. We went on a Friday night. If you're looking for a place that's not like a sweaty factory, come on a Friday night. Definitely the way to go. Table service was awesome. Our server, Cher, was very attentive. She told me to write a review if I enjoyed it...well the only thing I wish I would've done was get her #, but if it works out...it works out. Gotta love the tacos and the chocolate covered strawberries. Music was above average. All in all a great night and definitely will be back.

I've never been here on one of their actual club nights, so this review focuses more on the venue as an event space. I've been here for two hosted parties now, both on weeknights, so it's quite a different feel probably than everyone who has headed out for weekend dance-partying. First of all, you can find parking pretty close by on weeknights for $5, not too bad. The bouncers have always been very friendly, even when wrangling long lines at one of the parties I went to here, the afterparty for the Outfest film festival. The first thing you notice is how gorgeous the building is. They've renovated one of DTLA's beautiful old buildings, a perfect idea, really if you think about it, when developing a club. My main problem is the way they renovated it. Instead of basking in the gorgeous gold leafed trim, huge high ceilings and other old school details, they've really 'clubbed it up' with neon lights everywhere, colorful lights shooting out of the bars, cheap-looking black railings and generic black leatherette furniture. They've decorated it the way someone would decorate any black box to turn it into the dance club of the moment. I really wish they had taken advantage of how classy the building is and made it something new, because as we all know the last thing LA needs is another club of the moment. That's not to say that it shouldn't have been used as a dance club. With the high ceilings, balconies and huge middle space, it's actually perfect for dancing. But I wish they had gone a different route in terms of decor. The bartenders I've dealt with have been nice enough. I've been here in open-bar situations, which I know is never fun for a bartender, so considering that the service has been pretty friendly. I also found it weird how the bathrooms were hidden way back in a scary corner on the 2nd story... maybe there's one with more traffic somewhere else that I missed, but this is the first time that I wished there were MORE people in a bathroom because when I walked in it was pitch black and I was sure Paranormal Activity was going to come get me as I did my business. I'd be curious to come on a regular night to see what the scene is like, although I think from the other reviews I can pretty much guess. That being said, this part of downtown could use a dance club what with everything else that's happening in the area, so I hope that they continue to make improvements to the look and feel of the place so that I have someplace to shake my booty when I go downtown!

Made a reservation for 4 on Saturday night of V-Day weekend. We arrived on time and were told that the "seatings" were running a little behind. We waited about 15 minutes and were then shown to our table. It's a much a bigger place than it looks from the street. We were seated at a booth which was a tight squeeze for 4 fairly average sized people. We had already placed our drink order in the waiting area yet it took another 10 minutes or so for them to get to us. The waiter was a nice guy. We made the mistake of saying, "yes", when he asked if it was our first time dining there whereby he proceeded to give us a lesson in Menu 101... "The first course is in the upper left, followed by the second course..." We opted to order "ala carte" versus the 3 or 5 course tasting menus after the waiter told us that they would be a surprise. If I'm paying for the dinner, I want to know what I'm paying for... Just like there are some people who want to know the sex of their babies and some people who want to be surprised. Give me a choice. Two of us ordered the risotto, one ordered the celery soup and one ordered the arugula salad. The salad was a bust. There was some shaved parm and a little dried country ham on it but otherwise it was flavorless. The risotto was good but required that you get a little of everything on the plate in your mouth to get the right flavors and seasoning. The celery soup tasted like something from Gerber. For entrees, two of us ordered the pork loin, one the beef loin and one the sturgeon. The pork was cooked well. The accompanying root vegetables were spottily cooked... some done and some underdone. The beef loin, ordered medium rare, was more to the rare than the medium. The sturgeon was perhaps the best entree... cooked perfectly with an interesting crust. For dessert, the cocoa nib doughnuts, the chocolate pain perdu and the honey roasted pear were ordered with the doughnuts clearly winning. They put a lot of emphasis on sustainable products and the currently chic farm-to-table philosophy almost to the point of going overboard (aren't all coffee plants and thus all coffee sustainable?). Don't spend so much time telling me how great it is on the menu prove it to me with the taste. They have an extensive wine list but the prices are on the high side. The waitstaff was good but paid no attention to the conversation at hand as if what they had to say was always more important. No sign of Top Chef Gillespie. You'd think, given his new-found popularity and given that he has to know that many people are dining at Woodfire because of him, he would make a point of being seen and making the rounds. All-in-all we were glad we went but given the number of good places in Atlanta and given the missteps in food and service, not to mention prices on the high side (how are all of these young diners affording such meals?), we won't make an effort to return.
