Its 3 stars only because I don't like house music. But if you like house music, than its 4 stars. Interesting set-up, a little grotesque, there's some retro smoke thing going on every 10 minutes... Worth visiting because it's different than other clubs in NYC ...but not my taste so I won't be coming back :)

Aesthetically pleasing décor-but pleasing vibe is lacking. I wanted to support this place because it's in my neighborhood but, it's just not my scene. Thankfully, the music wasn't terrible. Their sound system would be impressive if they employed someone who knew how to use it. I kept myself amused watching the bartender crank out cocktails that resembled kool-aid (garnished with attitude.) -Creepy spray tan crowd and unoriginal cocktails did not yield a candy coating... But I did leave with a massive sugar headache.

At first, I was inclined to give Icon a higher rating, but then I realized I was deceiving myself, mostly due to the evil veil of alcohol induced stupor, and I came to my senses. One, Icon is one of the nighttime spots outside of the fratty NB/Marina that charges a cover charge, which is inexplicably unjustified. Not only is Icon located in a somewhat undesirable part of SOMA, it is not nearly uniquely cool or busy enough to justify a cover. Second, the crowd at Icon usually consists a bizarre blend of pretentiously overdressed group of lost Marina yuppies, tourists, and clubgoers who seem to be obsessed with finding the next "spot." Another big minus was my sighting of Veronica, the garment stealing alumnus from the deplorable MTV Real World/Road Rules franchise, who almost certainly was paid to make an appearance that night. Even if she wasn't, I couldn't live with myself knowing I was frequenting the same destination that a social sycophant like the shockingly short and unattractive Veronica would. Shame on me. In conclusion, two stars because, well, one star is the bottom of the barrel, and I've experienced worse elsewhere, so Icon gets a break.
