I went here for my bday with Sally Z. down there. I dont know what she was complaining since she got booked! anyways yes, we only got booked 1 girl but we were told by the server that we had too many patrons in the room and girls would be intimidated by the large number of people. I came a second time for a friends bday with a smaller group about 10 people. We still only got booked 1 girl....... but when you are drunk and dancing i'm sure it doesn't matter so much.

I came here for a friend's birthday. with rateclubser: Michael W. Noted: - HUGE statue of buddha - Calligraphy on the ceiling - Wait time was about 15-20 mins - Restaurant week fixed price $35 - Overall: 4.5 stars out of 5 Food: 4.5 out of 5 - Jumbo shrimp tempura with garlic chile sauce was juicy. - Wok Seared NY Sirloin with shiitake mushroms and szechwan potatoes was savory and cooked perfectly (medium rare) - Mango sorbet with assorted fruits was an excellent finish to the night. - TAO Angry Dragon Roll with Eel & Kabayaki Sauce fell apart too easily. I was disappointed Service: 4 out of 5 Ambiance: 5 out of 5 You will be content.

I first descended upon 111 Minna for my law school's barrister's ball, sort of a hybrid homecoming/prom event, I know, you're starting to loathe me already. Stick with me, I'm not a pompous sleazebag. But I'm classmates with a lot of them. But I digress... As soon as you enter, you're flanked by two bars, the main one on your left, and a smaller one to your right, and the layout works well. Minna's main attraction and calling card, obviously, is the art showcases displayed on the walls, and sometimes even the ceiling and open space when they're showing sculptures or constructive art pieces. The last time I was there, they had some Pollock-esque abstract pastiche pieces, some current political satire/pop art prints, and a wild Degas-like globe piece constructed out of metal chicken coop wire and what looked like matte aluminum foil. An interesting mix of genres, no real symmetry or connection between any of the displays, but appropriate considering the diverse social demographic of the patrons. How not too pretentiously-artsy-sleek-cool. Another cool touch is the turntable station in the corner, where usually a young, aspiring, black Giants cap donning dj is spinning an eclectic mix of old and new school hip hop beats, rock cuts, and pop pieces that pleases the crowd and keeps the artistic energy flowing and pulsating. Word. 111 Minna manages to stand out among the sea of homogenous hipster/greek life/biker bars that dominate the SF nightlife. If you value both form and function, style and substance, make the trek, you won't be disappointed, and neither will your visual, auditory, gustatory, and if you're lucky, even your tactile senses, as this place has a little something or someone for everyone.
