For what it is, Vertigo does the job right. If you're looking for a "club" as some of the other Rateclubers confirmed, travel your drunk-self down to Ruby Skye and form a line. Others, looking for a cool drink on a hot night, and to relax, come on down. Happy hour is the best, $3 well and draft, so if you get there at 6:45p.m. like I did, order two shots and a beer right off the bat. Id recommend going to this place during those "off" times you need a drink, like right BEFORE you hit the crazy club or on a week night. They've also got an indoor-ish smoking patio, and they always seem to have way too much room for their capacity that includes a bar area, dancing floor w/ DJ, and patio area but usually holds 8 ppl max. The music is great, always a selection of chill drinking "stoner" music... If you want to feel like your at the Ritz, go to the f***ing Ritz. This city is only 7 sq. miles. Enjoy the drunken French regular who is always willing to quiz you on your sports history..... characters like this make SF great.

Aesthetically pleasing décor-but pleasing vibe is lacking. I wanted to support this place because it's in my neighborhood but, it's just not my scene. Thankfully, the music wasn't terrible. Their sound system would be impressive if they employed someone who knew how to use it. I kept myself amused watching the bartender crank out cocktails that resembled kool-aid (garnished with attitude.) -Creepy spray tan crowd and unoriginal cocktails did not yield a candy coating... But I did leave with a massive sugar headache.

So glad that Royal Oak has a wine bar to counteract all the Woody's and Rocks on Thirds...and a good one to boot. The wine list is extensive, and several drinking options from glasses to carafes to full bottles allow one to sample or imbibe as varied a selection as one wishes. It's a cozy space. We always seem to end up at the front booth area or the bar, which is fine. The decor is soothing and unobtrusive and service is excellent. Good selection of small plates and appetizers to enhance the drinking experience.
