It's been awhile since I "clubbed" on a regular basis and most of that time was spent in Prague so I can't really compare it to other NYC dance spots. With that being said, here was my Cielo experience... Friend in from out of town... much drinking... picked up my wife and some of her co-workers at Nero... wanted to do something more than grab a drink... can't afford crazy bottle service prices at other Meat Packing places... end up at Cielo. First, the positives: 1) Absolutely great DJ that night. He had the crowd jumping and I found his mixes to be fun and original. 2) Great sound system... truly 3) They had mouthwash in the bathroom... cute 4) A small outdoor space to smoke or breathe smoke The blah: 1) Ambience was lacking... not a particularly great space, innovative layout or design 2) Not much fun people watching, which I think is requisite when paying a cover charge Overall, good music and dancing but I have to believe there are better places to get my groove on.

Battle of the Great Combinations Tag Team No. 1: Batman & Robin Strengths: Drop kicks, killer intuition, neat car, sizable fortune Weaknesses: Wardrobe manager still thinks black is the new black, unfortunate bat/circus obsessions Partnership Chemistry: Semi-militant heirarchical scheme resulting in not infrequent acts of defiance (e.g., that one where Batman says "stay here, Robin" but Robin (sigh) doesn't. Calamity ensues) Tag Team No. 2: Stockton & Malone Strengths: Pick & Roll; Making purple look ok on both a big black guy and a tiny white guy; Dream Team Weaknesses: Playing during the era of Jordan and Olajuwon Partnership Chemistry: Overheard after a game: "Hey Karl, do you ever feel like our relationship is superficial? Like it's always just a physical thing and that we never really get to share how it feels on the inside? Maybe this is an opportunity to grow?" "Shut up John." Tag Team No. 3: Big Dipper & Little Dipper Strengths: Scooping stars; Balls of fiery gas bedazzlement Weaknesses: Quantum fluctuations in the microscopic inflationary region; The fact that ladies dig Orion's belt more than a pair of measuring cups Partnership Chemistry: Generally stable; subject to nasty bouts of Einstein-Rosen bridges Tag Team No. 4: Trudy's Migas & Fjitas Strengths: The basic premise of migas AND fajitas in one dish; Grilled onions; Migas texture; great pico Weaknesses: Vegetables in migas could be crisper; Chicken could be a little moister; extra charge for the guac just isn't worth the quantity, or quality. Partnership Chemistry: This pair of foods deserves more action than Maverick and Goose working the Righteous Brothers. Without question, this dish is the most satisfying threesome you'll ever have for under $10. Though Batman and Robin have that super computer, you'd be surpised how insightful the grilled onions can be. The migas have been defending the pick and roll since they were born - they'll make Stockon rely on long j's, which everyone knows he can't hit when the game is on the line. The Dippers are great, but totally nocturnal - migas and fajitas are ready to go whenever Trudy's is. Game. Set. Match.

Amazing music (NIcolas Matar rocks), great design, and friendly staff who don't try to bleed every dime out of you for the sake of selling another bottle. This is definitely a club that is all about the music, manages attract a fun, and beautiful crowd, and keeps the party going strong. Definitely a must go when in New York--if you like house music.
