Soccer bar. Enough said. There is no atmosphere quite like the Phoenix Landing to watch a soccer game. I visited here a few times for the 2010 World Cup and it was always a blast. You have to show up very early for Liverpool, England or USA games but I promise you it is always worth it. The singing, the chanting and the camaraderie are the essentials that make it a great soccer bar. Additionally, there is a great and currently expanding beer selection including some from my hometown's brewery, Goose Island, from which they have 312 and Mathilda. I haven't tried much of the food here besides the Breakfast Pizza, which was definitely delicious, and was a great bellyfiller while waiting for the 2010 World Cup Final match. I wish there were more bars like this in Boston, but for now, I'll have to stick with the trek to Phoenix Landing.

I've gone to a few parties here. All of which have been good times. The music: The Latin room is the closest you'll get to real Latin music without going further uptown. The hip hop room plays a lot of old stuff. The crowd: Mainly older. You can tell because the women put gel in their hair and the men tuck their sweaters into their pants. Should you come? If you're the type who likes to meet people in clubs, then no. Although I must add, why would you want to meet someone in a club??? If you're the type who wants to dance salsa w/ a salsero, then come here on a Tuesday afterwork. If you're the type who wants to drink out of a plastic cup and dance to B.I.G. with your people, then come here. Plus after a night of dancing you can go to Gray's Papaya on Broadway. That alone is the best selling point.

Mezzanine is my absolute favorite club in S.F. The Funktion-1 sound system instalation in that place is crystal clear and the space itself is a descent size, with two balcony / lounge areas. Definately a great place to catch live electronica acts. I've had the pleasure of seeing Squarepusher, Plaid, Luke Vibert, Chris Clark, AMon Tobin, Autechre, Kid Koala, and more and it was always a Sonic Treat.
