Two stars is being nice. I'm going to begin with the positive.  The only reason this place has any redemptive quality is simply because Jacob Shure is the GM.  If you go into the restaurant, make sure he is there or else I will hunt you down and scalp you.  Kudos to Mr. Shure for salvaging the worst dining experience ever. Our reservation was for 8:45p to seat 5 people.  We were seated at 10:25p.  I don't care if the pope comes in, we had a reservation and they should've found a way to honor that.  We were ushered to the terrace where we were given a terrible wine list.  However, Jayla (name?) was very pleasant to deal with and extremely helpful in helping us manage our hunger rage.  Kudos Jayla. The table they sat us by was wobbly and near the kitchen.  It seemed cold and put together last minute.  They said they couldn't do anything about the table wobbling so the entire night our glasses were splashing water all over the place.  I felt like I was at Raging Waters. Our waitress had the worst attitude.  Unbearable really.  Cute face, slightly big boned, but we were a friendly group of people so there was no need for attitude; plus we waited over an hour and a half to get seated which is ludicrous - and I don't mean the rapper.  The entire night, she was rolling her eyes, speaking with a short temper, and ignoring us for spans of 15 minutes or more: when I do fine dining, I expect someone to be there when my hand even begins to go up.  But then again, Jacob Shure was there to the rescue (serious Kudos). The Breakdown: I'll just tell you what you should try. Corn Chowder with Pork Belly - Excellent Chowder.  It wasn't creamy, but it wasn't watery either.  The flavors were well balanced and the presentation was excellent.  The pork belly however was not prepared well and tarnished the composition of the chowder.  Maybe the best thing on the menu. Tataki of Wagyu - Good, not great.  It wasn't memorable.  The small salad on the side however was excellent and I remember craving it well into the night. Tuna Tar Tar - Way too much Sesame Oil.  However, the Tuna was fresh and they prepare it in front of you like guacamole at a Mexican restaurant. Alaskan Halibut - Lovely.  Flakey, steaky, and juicy all at the same time.  It was accompanied by cherry tomatoes and an excellent light sauce that really brought out the flavor and texture of the fish. Tai Red Snapper - Huge disappointment.  I seriously thought this was going to make me a believer of Mr. Mina, but it just condoned his mediocrity as a chef.  How he has such an excellent location boggles my mind.  Maybe he shouldn't deviate from the Tapas style dishes. Some Chicken Dish I don't remember the name of that sounds Moroccan - Don't waste your time ordering this one.  Just go to Ralphs and buy a rotisserie chicken. Nutella Custard - Blah.  I don't even think I should comment on this.  The combination of sour and sweet didn't work in this as there was no smooth transition from one to the next. Root Beer Float - I was really looking forward to this, but this was no better than my A&W's with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream.  Yes, just make it yourself at home and save yourself 10 bucks.

I know it's cool for me to sit here in judgment of all the club-kids out there.  I know I should write a review in which I bemoan the fact that people pay cover/expensive drinks to get beaten over the head with a techno-hip-hop soundtrack, all while getting ground on by 300 of your new closest friends. BUT I'm not going to do that. Primal is what it is.  I don't think anyone is going to go there expecting a sitdown 6 course dinner party. The club is BIG, the music is LOUD there are A LOT of bars, and there's a great patio out back if the music/smoke is getting to you. The crowd was a good mix (atleast it was 2 months ago when I went) Is it my scene?  No, but for what it is it does a decent job.  There could be more bathrooms, and the stairway to the upstairs bars is treacherous, I know someone will/has demonstrate gravity by tumbling down it. Go in a group and you'll have a good time, and there are enough different dancefoors/DJs that everyone can find something they like. Not even sure why I'm writing this review....IF you hate clubbing this place won't change your mind.  IF you have to be out at a club thurs-sun nights, you've already been here.

Varsity! I love that this place is owned/started by a cute old black man! He was tooo adorable and had a vision...that gets me going on the inside! Motivation! We don't have a Varsity in DC, we do have a Ben's Chili Bowl which both owners had the same dream. I had the chill dog without the extra toppings...I wanted to try out the chill dogs, have not had the burgers yet! Now, I ask for cheese and I see that they don't use nacho cheese, just slice cheese which was not melted by the way! (Thats kinda boiled me, had my blood going, really wasn't feeling the slice cheese) But it was all good because it was pretty good. YAH! I will return and try one of those burgers...
