I am from the east coast originally and specifically Connecticut/New York City area. Having Partied there for years I find it hard to believe especially now a days since the dollar is worthless, that queens here cry baby over a measly 8$ cover. This bar has truley spent time and effort into making a real space for people to hang and listen to music. Ok maybe this space is not eveyones cup of tea but for those who like it.......8$ is not even enough money to by a damn happy meal!! Either get a real education so that you can get a good job and afford an 8$ cover or go on state assistance so that 8$ doesnt break yer bank Kids. Lastly, If 8$ is too much then go to a free be no cover bar that use to be a check cashing place that simply took the sign down and put a bar inside which these cheapo dive bars here in Phoenix are typically like. Good luck

I have no clue why my friends like this place so much, probably because there's a crap load of people to dance with. The music is alright, the drinks are terrible and WAY overpriced. I only come here when I can get on the list for an event that Indierotica/Shaw Promotion puts together (mainly DJ Jess or Alex Malfunction), other than that its pretty boring and sweaty. If you're in any of the other rooms however, there's a ton of creeps just waiting to latch onto you  - I'm seriously warning you ladies, go here with a group of friends and you'll be safe, just make sure you all stick together cause there are some freaks here. Its like this with any club, but with Webster Hall, I cant even walk TWO FEET without someone sneaking up behind me and holding on (I actually had a guy latch onto me for about two minutes, trying to dance with me as I kept attempting to walk away) As for the staff, they were pretty friendly, the bouncers do a good job of pulling the weirdos off you if you look like you aren't having a good time. The doormen aren't jerks either, they were actually pretty polite on the way in and the way out. If you're going here for an event, its cool, if not? Well, I know pepper spray is frowned upon, but seriously, if I could get away with bringing it in there I probably would.

Yes, for all the reasons listed in the other reviews, Blake's is definitely a very popular destination for many of the folks living in and around midtown. :) I went for the first time tonight because they are the newest venue for Full House Holdem, with a Thursday night game. That, and a guy I play poker with at Smith's Olde Bar is the kitchen manager and has been talking it up for weeks. I started by ordering a drink. It was $6 which I thought was a little steep considering it was served in a little plastic cup, but it was quite strong, so I didn't mind. The food however was quite reasonably priced and very good! I had a basket of mini-burgers served with hand-made patties on fresh bread. Far superior to other bar food I've had around town (*cough*Smith's*cough*). My friend's wrap looked delicious too. The kitchen manager claims that the employees from the Jason's Deli across the street come to Blake's for sandwiches even though they serve them at their own restaurant. I'd believe that judging from the various sandwiches I saw other people eating. The service was fantastic, our waiter was constantly coming by the table making sure we were all taken care of, and the bartenders were quick and friendly. The whole staff were very happy to have the poker crowd there, which is a definite contrast to some bars who tend to see them as an annoyance. I only saw the upstairs portion of the bar, which is just tables and a bar, but downstairs is supposed to be more of a nightclub vibe if that's what you are looking for.
