I don't like clubs to begin with, but if you do, you should take this review with a pinch of salt. My roommates, however, all love clubbing so I *had* to go with them. No worries about a cover; on the Friday night that we went, you could text "GRFRIDAY" to 84444 and you and a friend would get in for free before midnight. Night starts. Pregaming occurs at the apartment. Really, I try to limit the amount that I spend buying drinks. And for good reason - a Jameson Sprite here costed $9, and I ended up running a $50 bar tab anyways. As far as music goes - can you say bipolar? They would do these weird remixes where they'd play parts of popular songs for about 30 seconds at a time - not cool that the song kept on switching right as you started getting into it! Plus, a few moments where they'd play like random techno for 5 minutes at a time or so. Weird! Not very consistent. And last, the parking situation - we parked next door where the Taco Mac 5 Guys is, its a little cheaper than force valeting at GR.

Awesome chill daytime drinking spot that I plan to be at more often. I hate stating that its a hidden gem because that always ruins it, but it truly is to me. One of the best veggie burgers I have had too. If you are hungover, start drinking immediately because the boat that it is on does actually rock. Nothing a couple beers cant fix though. Also possibly one of the creepiest bathrooms I have been in. Down in the boat, its wet and musky and dark. Not a place to hang out in. Also, if you decide to jump off the side as did one of the patrons after the rain storm where we all got soaked anyway, you will be immediately asked to leave by the friendly down to earth staff.

I mean, there is everything here that COULD potentially make me want to hate Sugar Cafe with a vile passion: the modern-ish decor with low couches, lots of neon, an odd menu, and a bunch of douches that seem to congregate here late in the evening. Except. Somehow. All these factors actually WORK for me. The couches and the tables are comfortable and can accommodate groups of friends. The neon lighting is the most flattering, for taking photos and putting them on my Flickr 'n such; it's this rosy-red glow that just makes you look vibrant and mysterious and attractive, if slightly radioactive. The menu is actually full of super tasty things, like amazing mac'n'cheese with white cheddar and crispy bacon bits, fluffy tiramisu served in gigantic cappuccino cups, really good olives with orange zest and garlic, and raspberry Lambic float with chocolate ice cream. Oh and chocolate empanadas, and dates wrapped in bacon. It is so tasty. And last but not least, the douches are actually my friends and I, because we get there early, have a light dinner, and then segue into some serious drinking of foofy cocktails. while we take up lots of room and talk loudly about inappropriate subject matters, romantic anecdotes, and the trials and tribulations of post-baccalaureate academia.
