Houseluljah My inner European house music loving soul sometimes takes over my body and forces me drive to Hollywood to jump up and down the dance floor with my fellow crazies. Playhouse is the perfect place to end a night out drinking and dancing, if you didn't get enough of that at the first club(s) you went to... or if you wine and dine at a place nearby and you get stung by the dance bug. HOUSELULJAH!!! The people in there are the normal crazy Hollywood crowd x10 who loves House and drinking. What else do you need? I am normally not a crazy clubber, but its fun sometimes to really let loose and listen to awesome music. They often have famous djs playing at the club, and those nights can be crowded. BUT sharing (the dance floor) is caring!

Modern interpretations of classic southern cuisine and a midtown location keep this spot filled. We waited about 30 minutes for a table on 12/1 and eventually were seated upstairs, with a view of the bar and Christmas tree downstairs. Fried green tomatoes oozed with cheese and were coated in a crispy breading and quickly vanished. Shrimp in a spicy sauce were a good counterpoint. I'm not a big cornbread fan, but the muffins were warm and not overly chewy. Shrimp and grits were supposed to come with poblano peppers, tasso ham, and a smoky tomato gravy. The dish was tasty and rich, but any flavor of poblanos or smoky tomato was indistinguishable. Mostly it was a creamy grits flavor with the ham adding a bit of salty counterpoint. Fellow diners liked the beef brisket and pork shank, while the vegetable platter was loaded up with all the sides from the menu. Fellow diner said the fried okra was stringy but the other veggies - made tastier with butter or breading - were good. Vanilla ice cream was a relatively light way to end. Service was attentive; the place was busy and pretty loud in a friendly way.
