by L A. on I need to remember that I have a droid now - I can search for reviews before I try a place. I wish I had done that last night. I grew up in KC and since I've been down here, I haven't had much bbq, mainly because I don't think it can compare. Anyway, it was a spur of the moment decision to come here. I was on my way to quality seafood but I had already been there once this week, and I wanted something a bit different. They were out of a lot of stuff - desserts (never mind, I'll get fresh donuts from Mrs. Johnson's down the street) and pork ribs. So, I ordered the beef ribs, with two sides, for $10. At most restaurants that will give you a 1/2 rack. This place, you only get 2 ribs. That's right, 2 ribs. That bad part about it was that I kept smelling/tasting cigarettes with my meal. I don't know if it was the server or if it was the person cooking the food. But, just every once in a while, I'd think cigarettes? It could be that the server was passing by and I was smelling her. Anyway, the candied yams weren't really sweet. The slaw didn't have any flavor at all (neither tangy or sweet). The bread was dry. The ribs' flavor was OK but it wasn't anything like I grew up with. To top it all off, my stomach was talking to me for the rest of the night. Not a good experience all the way around. I regret coming here - I should've gone to Quality. Yeah, I would have spent twice as much but I would have had a meal that was 10 times better.
