Wow. All I have to say and not in a good way. This place was absolutely terrible! Overall, this place was subpar. Its not even worth my time to give it a second chance. Food = 1 star (due to inedible chicken, horrific "truffled" bread pudding - aka soggy bread) Service = 1 star (uneducated & inattentive waitstaff) Sommelier = 4.5 stars. Helpful & my wine glass was never empty not to mentiont that I felt he was good natured and friendly. It started out great. We had reservations for 10 people at 930pm on Valentine's Day. Yes, I know strange place to go, but we were all visiting LA for work. We were seated immediately in the "outdoor" space. A few of us ordered cocktails to start and we waited to order. We were served Naan w/ a feta yogurt sauce which was quite delicious. The wonderful sommelier assisted with a wine selection and was continually on top of making sure our wine glasses were full. Unfortunately, this is mostly where our pleasant evening ended. 30-40 minutes later, we were finally served our cocktails (which only 3 of 10 ordered). They were well made but it took forever to come out. When we ordered, we were limited to the prix fixe menu ($75pp) Our first course was a single oyster which took more than an hour to be served. At this time I had also been waiting 30 minutes and three requests for water refills. The guy mixing the tuna tartare in the shape of the heart was very pleasant and enjoyable but the whole show of it was unnecessary. The tuna itself was good, but nothing special. An hour and a half after we arrived, our main course FINALLY arrived. I had been so excited about my main course - Japanese Jidori Chicken w/ Truffled Bread Pudding & Brussels Sprouts. I had several friends who raved about the truffle bread pudding so I had been looking forward to it for about a week. Well, the main was AWFUL. I couldn't stomach the chicken which tasted like faked liquid smoke, the bread pudding was missing the truffle and tasted like soggy bread and the brussels sprouts were oddly shaped florets and tasted & looked just like cauliflower! As this was a work group dinner, I didn't feel right to complain to management, but in general don't spend your money here. But, maybe it was a bad night for them, who knows. If you do go, good luck. Please enjoy your meal = otherwise be warned. This place is more "trendy" atmosphere & hype than tasty food and good (or even decent) service.

I will preface this with the fact that I am NOT a big fan of Asian fusion, much less pricey Asian fusion. When you are used to good Asian food, why would you want to mix it up with other flavors? But I'm willing to adjust my opinion after TAO. More specifically, the Peking Duck spring rolls (hubby threatened to ask for 3 additional orders of them) and the Miso Glazed Chilean Sea Bass (a little on the salty side...but in a good way). Also tried the Black Pepper Sizzled Filet Mignon with Udon noodles but found the black pepper sauce overwhelming. It is crowded and loud but the decor is fun -where else do you eat while looking at a gimongous Buddha? Overall, a good meal for our NYC visit.
