by Cathy Schoene on The Corner Bar is a St. Charles institution. It's claim to fame is the 2 lane bowling alley in the basement with 3 pins and bowling ball the size of a softball called Cocked Hat Bowling. My father "stuck" pins there as a boy of 12 years old back in 1940 working well into the wee hours of the morning. The lanes are still in existence today and used for private parties. This is a "local" bar with simple Midwestern hospitality. It's nothing fancy and never intends to be anything other than what it always has been -- a local watering hole for St. Charles residents, young and old.
