Parking in North Beach is a BITCH so my friend and I missed the guestlist :( Cover was freaking $25! I was pretty pissed so I went to go drown my sorrows at the bar with a $10 shot of patron (which was actually really bigger than an average shot). It must have been 11:20pm or something and the dance floor was DEAD! Weird, but the people we met up with seem to get the party started. Oh and so random! It became a concert with some rappers? and throwing out free t-shirts that were 5 sizes too big? I did like the top 40 music, though the mixing wasn't perfect.

I LOVE this place!!! It's a hidden treasure in Hollywood, that's for sure, AMAZING food (my fav is the Ahi tuna sandwich, with fries, a salad with ginger dressing SO good and only like $10!!) and sometimes there's a jazz show or comedy show, such great ambiance, such nice people, go check it out and help out a local business in our neighborhood!!

I wanted to contribute an "original" review but after reading recent reviews by Al C. and Ann V. I must say that they really describe my recent experience at Zahav's perfectly. "Expensive tapas" place can serve as a good shorthand for the overpriced and, more importantly, strangely boring and often imperfectly executed dishes (you know the routine from Tinto or Distrito: "order at least three of four plates", the wait staff urges unsuspecting diners. My "Jerusalem" brochette (chicken liver and sweebreads) brought tiny bits of charred sweetbread among a couple livers, the "blood orange" panna cotta was so miniscule that it looked as if someone had placed a teaspoon full of my not-yet-arrived panna cotta on a plate as a preview (it turned out to be so gelatinous that I had enough after the two bites). A really minus is the overpriced wine list where inexpensive wines are dressed up in price like an oenophile's treasures. I drank fairly priced beers. Apparently, Zahav's presently is on every national food magazine list as one of 10 best restaurants in the country. Hm, I think this confirms my rather dim view of how magazines make up these lists (think well connected publicist).
