Walked in around 11pm on a Friday night with no line and no cover. Standard club with typical radio club music. Prices for drinks are what you'd expect in San Francisco.

Went here last night (Saturday) for my best friend's birthday shin dig, and was looking over reviews while my boyfriend and i walked through the mall looking for an outfit for the night. The things we were focusing on were obviously, dress code, and what the crowd was like. So reading through reviews, we got trendy, casual, hip, and well I pretty much yelled across H&M that they have $5.00 margaritas and decent sounding prices and quality for food, which I definitely think can be rare when anyone is trying to imagine a place in LA to drink and mingle. Well clearly my best friend did her research because when we got there at 9:30 for her reservation, the place was decently filled, not a ton of people but not completely empty. You pass the heavy black curtain at the door and walk into what is a creative mix of a dia de los muertos version of it's a small world/alice in wonderland. Little puppets highlighted in the walls next to the restaurant bar, velvet damask print, mirrors, and murals grace each wall, huge silver and black velvet pinatas hang from the ceilings like unlit chandeliers, and of course what could be best described as jazz mex music played in the restaurant area. We started the night off with some stiff $5.00 margaritas and then were seated in our own private room upstairs. The room was PERFECT. All white booth, chairs, and glass topped tables, with velvet black damask on the ceiling. The room can seat a total of 20 people, and even though the BFF reserved a table for a party of 11, they still gave us the pleasure of having our dinner in their private dining room. The food was DELISH. The pico de gallo, bean dip and tortilla chips was a tasty preview at what was to come. I shared the nachos de sancho with my boyfriend, which was perfectly proportioned with cheese, steak, beans, guacamole, and goodness, it was dark and i can't quite remember what unique ingredients were on the nachos, but they were pretty much, REALLY good. I normally don't like beans on my nachos or in my burritos, but these beans were perfectly spiced, consistent and just went so well with our nachos. After dinner, we headed over to the patio where the first thing we noticed were the mural painted walls, a true consistency of what I would imagine a place called "Velvet Margarita" would look like on the inside. The DJ played 80's/90's rock classics while a well mixed crowd (age and ethnicity) chatted, drank, and danced. Overall, a SUPER great place to enjoy the aura and charm of the venue with girlfriends, significant others, and groups of big or small. Food is definitely worth trying out, as I would love to go back soon for dinner, and the night life of the venue is relaxed, non-top 40 music ridden, and seemingly not chaotic and frustrating like most LA nightlife venues. Also, after your'e done eating and relaxing on their patio, Citizen Smith is a couple doors down with no cover, and plays a good mix of top 40/old school/ dance for you to work some of that dinner or plethora of $5.00 margaritas off!

just like MaryGrace said, "W.H.A.C.K.!!!" Although i dont know what that stands for... DJ Oldschool's playlist consisted of all songs that came out back in my high school years [98-02]. I remember burning cds with those songs from napster and playing them on a portable cd player hooked up to the car by the tape adapter! they have a big bar area, but not enough bartenders. had potential to be a fun night, and i blame the DJ. ITS YOUR FAULT! YOU SHOULD FEEL HORRIBLE
