After sitting on the bookmark for many weeks, Amy and I finally made the trek to Hardena. It's worth mentioning that Amy is not the most adventurous culinary explorer, but she is trusting and therefore game for most any challenge I throw down. Hole-in-the-wall Indonesian food in Point Breeze is by far the most challenging food situation I have ever thrust us into. We walked in a little confused and a lot hungry. After an eternity of 60 seconds, we were guided through the selections and the process by a matronly and sweet woman behind the counter. "First time?" she asked. Clearly we looked like deer in the headlights. Plates piled high with more food than I would have thought possible for $6 per person, we sat down and dug in. I enjoyed my food, but some of the textures were foreign to me. I am spoiled by only having eaten better cuts of meat for the past two decades. The tempeh was fantastic, as was the tofu-and-egg curry dish. The lamb and chicken were too much of the dark-meat variety for me. Not complaining, just not what I am used to. Amy did not fare so well. Holding up a misshapen cut of poultry she asked, "what piece of the chicken is this?" When I replied, in my best you're-gonna-be-sorry-you-asked tone, "the neck," she turned a deeper shade of green and threw in the towel. I'll be back for lunch. By myself. =)

The drinks are decent, priced per the area, the atmosphere is nice, the music is unique and tasteful, but I always feel like something's still missing. I think this place might fare a lot better for a week-night meet-up than it does on weekends, when it's just confusing -- too loud to converse, too awk to dance; not laidback enough to just chill, but not quite a club. If you want a lounge-y atmosphere with a similar slightly upscale atmosphere, my call would be to go one T stop over one way to Noir in Harvard Square, or two the other to Alibi by Charles. But if you're really into standing in lines in the cold on weekend nights, this is it, folks!

Great place to see live music with bars on both sides of the floor and even more bars upstairs. Went here to see the Guitar Center DJ Spin Off and it provided a great venue to see artists, both on stage and on the suspended video screens, as well as check out a live art installation by Obey master Shepard Fairey. All in all a great place to see a show in the heart of the city.
