by Ariel M. on Love, love love Little Baobab. From 6-10pm it's a bar/restaurant with good Senegalese food. Mostly some saucy dish served over rice or couscous. The fried plantain appetizers are sinfully good. The $5 house cocktails are really good, my personal favorite is the Rose, but the flavors center around ginger, tamarind and hibiscus. After 10 the tables and chairs get moved out of the way and it becomes a small dance club, with DJs that play "world" music. It gets really crowded by 11 on weekends. Cover is $5. Staff is awesome, bartenders are friendly. Speak french to any of the many Africans that work here to score points (and possibly discounts).
by Jone Jasik on We saw Jackie Beat doing "Drag Nog" here and I would give her 10 stars! Yup the show was THAT funny! She made me laugh so hard I almost peed my pants, which wouldn't be a problem, however, I was wearing tights and a short skirt. Its a really great venue for an intimate evening, drinks were delish (mmm Dirty, Dirty Ketel1- I heart U), servers were pretty fantastic.. why did I subtract a star you ask? The staff who worked the venue was just a little hmmm.... "disorganized" We arrived at 9:30 for the "late" show (10:30) and there were no signs, just a table and a velvet rope. So we did the obvious- HIT THE BAR. After quite a few people filled the bar area (just as clueless as we were) I decided to catch a woman who looked as if she may work there and asked if she knew when we could pick up our "will call" tix. Maybe she was having a rough night ? (I try to give the benefit) because she was a bit snippy and told me to get in line behind the velvet rope. Ok (and just cuz I'm a bit pushy and NEED to know- yes I admit it) I asked her if she had any idea how long I would need to stand here (high heel boots have a limited shelf life). She responded "Probably another 40min" WTF? in my head of course, So Whaddya do? rally up the troops cuz I know we were in store for a great show and ask them to bring me another drink while I stand in line to get prime seats. We did get great seats and I seriously don't think any of us have laughed so much in a very long time. Miss Jackie Beat is a KRAZY BIATCH and comes around once a year for the holidaze so wherever she ends up next year... CHECK HER CRAZY ASS OUT!!!
by Yayne A. on As an Ethiopian I was completely mortified by the food there. Boy do they have all you uber, hipster ,white people fooled. This is the ABSOLUTE WORST Ethiopian food ever. I had been to Waziema for drinks but I had not had their food until Saturday. It was awful. Plus the owners' know my family so I was really upset by what I put in my mouth. Their food is like the Wonder bread, twinky set of Ethiopian food. They don't even use the right spices. I am embarassed that this is called Ethiopian food. There is nothing tasty or authentic about it. So for all of you who think that you are all eating good and authentic Ethiopian food I have one word for you ....SUCKERS
