by Linette Provins on I know some people that swear by this place, and I don't see eye to eye with them, though I don't know if there is any "club" that I could say that about. The one time I've been to this place, I was hanging out in the VIP getting comped drinks from an acquaintance who had connections. Walking into the place, I thought I was walking into one of those Hollywood cop movies where the detectives make a random stop at a nightclub to investigate the bad guys. It doesn't feel so much like a nightclub, as a Hollywood set portraying one. Now to fit that whole stereotypical "club" scene, you have all the trimmings, the bouncers with clipboards and earpieces out front. The line of people to get in. Inside you have the lights, and thumping beats of a top 40/dance soundtrack. Close your eyes and imagine a club with a balcony, and that's pretty much Opera. Here you get what you pay for, or rather you pay for what you get. Drinks are expensive, (on top of the $20 you've shelled out to get inside). Even a bottle of water is more than some cocktails I've had at decent places. I get the feeling that this is more a place to "be seen" than to go hang out on a weekend. I guess it's the kind of place you would hit if your trying to impress with a date, but If I didn't have the hook up at this place, I wouldn't be back. It's a good place to go once to see what all the fuss is about, then you can decide if it's worth it. I would personally much rather find a comfortable couch, a nice beer and a "chill" environment to have a conversation. But I'm not a clubber so take this review for what it is.
by Brittany S. on Very cool club over in East Atlanta. I've only been here twice, but I really, really like the size -- this club is huge!!!! There are two rooms, the one when you first walk in has a long sectional for sitting and chatting (or pre-nursing the hangover that you might have in the morning!) with a DJ. If you walk a little farther, you'll enter the big room with a different DJ and a new vibe. The dance floor is actually a dance floor...and there is ample room to walk around complete with a VIP section overlooking the dance floor. I can't comment on the drinks because I don't drink, but my friends surely got a nice buzz from the bar each time we went. Ladies, if your heels cause your feet to go numb at any point during the evening, don't you dare sit on the steps...the security WILL call you out! Not right at all! Best thing about Esso: HUGE FREE PARKING LOT!!!!!..one more time...HUGE FREE PARKING LOT!!!!!!!!!!!! You don't have to worry about coming out after the party is over to find your car (or not find it) booted or ticketed. Pure Fridays...highly recommend it!
