Took a date here for dinner on a Friday night. First had drinks at the bar, which were good and fairly priced, and we were even able to find seats at the bar. For dinner, the date and I shared 4 small plates: hang steak, halibut, shrimp, and broccolini (sp?), then shaed 2 desserts: rose water ice cream and rasberry & lemon cake. Again, everything was quite good. Service was competent. No real complaints. However, nothing was that outstanding. I realize this is SF, but for a $150 meal, I expected more. The place was quite loud and hard to hold a conversation across the table. Good for larger parties but not so great for dates. Good mix of older and younger people.

We have been here four times and have always had a great time here. Don't come here on a weekend night if you are in a hurry to get in and get out, or expect to find parking immediately. We had to park on a side street. Get a beer order from the bar and stand around 45-60 minutes with the crowd until your table is ready. The new restaurant better accomodates the crowds, but the blue collar ambiance of the old tavern is gone. I reviewed Six Feet Under before and I am editing my review to show that the food deserves five stars, after a misstep our first visit. We have had great luck with the scallops and grits, shrimp and scallops platter, and fish stew, a southern version of Thai Tom Yum soup. Ambiance in the new restaurant on Memorial Drive, though enjoyable, is LOUD because of the acoustics.
