I went to South City Kitchen-Midtown on a Saturday night after my plans to go to a different restaurant fell through. I called SCK around 8:00p and asked if they had any available reservations and they had one for 9:30, yay! We got there a few minutes early and our table wasn't ready which was ok since we were early. We sat at the bar while we waited and ordered a drink which was shockingly waaaay too strong! If you like your flavored martinis to just taste like vodka then that would've been great for you, but I prefer to be able to taste a balance of both flavor and alcohol. The atmosphere was mildly energetic (not too loud, but not too quiet either), which I liked and the decor was classic; white table cloths and simple dinnerware...nice. The food. I ordered the scallop, shrimp and grits. It was just average to me. The scallops and shrimps didn't taste like they were seasoned at all. They didn't really do anything for me except for provide some additional texture to the grits. The grits were gooooood! I'm a southern girl so I can appreciate some good hearty grits. My friend had the fried chicken. She said that it was just ok... Service was 5-star and our server was very nice and attentive. I just wished that our food was as great as a service. I'll come back another time and try something different from the menu.

My friends and I absolutely love to dance and thought that going there one saturday night would be a great idea. First off, the staff was absolutely snobby and almost rude to us. The cover was a whopping $20. We expected that the music would have been amazing and well worth our money. I have no idea what happened here. Perhaps this was a bad night to go or it was just an off night. None of the awesome reviews our friends had given to us about his place could be identifiable to us at all. the music was incredibly hard to dance to (and some of us are professional dancers), people seemed snobby and holier-than-thou and the dancefloor was tiny. most of the people who were there, were just standing around or staring at people dancing. we left about 15 minutes of garbage music we couldn't dance to and a chilly unfriendly atmosphere. i'm not 100% sure if my experience was just bad only b/c i went on an off-night or because saturdays are not really good.

I frequent this other bar in Noe called the Dubliner on 24th street. Every Friday, we have an off-site and explore the various buroughs of the city. This last week we explored the Mission/Bernal Heights area and found ourselves at El Rio. Dios Mio! This place is heaven on earth with $2.50 Stellas and well drinks, free oysters and BBQ, a pool table and an outdoor patio. Our crew made an unfortunate mistake of sitting next to the grill, so after 6 hours of drinking the smell of pork BBQ permeated every particle of my being. There was some sort of burlesque show that happend inside, but the smoke from the grill and our laughter clouded the performance. Parking is pretty easy on Mission, especially if you get there at 4pm on a Friday like I did and leave/pass out by 10p.
