my friend and i started off with small ikura (salmon roe) rice cups which came with a drizzle of soy and dab of wasabi. the ikura was ridiculously sweet and fresh. they pop right in your mouth and the heat from the wasabi just makes it even better. it was our favorite dish of the night. we also ordered the butter scallops and a squid dish. both were nicely executed, but didn't have anything that made it memorable. we also ordered the hanamizuki roll. the presentation was gorgeous and the roll had nice texture and flavor. (i just love starring at the sushi bar and watching them add the little finishing touches) I believe we were there around 11pm so the place was not busy at all. mr. hayakawa was a very attentive and gracious host. Also, it did not take long for our food to arrive at all. So if you are worried about long waits, perhaps choosing a different time will be a better alternative. Hayakawa definitely is one of the best japanese restaurants i have frequented and my friends plan on dining in again very soon and trying out other dishes. Don't miss out! Since the restaurant is opened until 2am, go karaoke your heart out and then go for some amazingly fresh sushi to end your night=))

I see a lot of mixed reviews for Opera. Seems people either love it or hate it.....well, I guess I'm right in the middle. There are merits to both sides of the arguments but as the occasional club goer, the Top 40's music, long lines, and overpriced drinks are expected so it doesn't bother me much. As I walked up this fine Saturday evening, I was a little hesitant to get in line because it just looked like a tiring wait but it actually moved very fast and I probably got in the door 20 mins later. By midnight, the main dance area was packed so our party moved around a bit. I survey the layout and my favorite part was the outdoor balcony. As far as the interior goes, the layout is a little weird and I didn't really notice any of the decorations. Looking up, I noticed the VIP/ bottle service section. I would like to go up there one day but paying hundreds of dollars for bottle service just isn't my thing. Maybe I'm just getting cantankerous in my old age. I don't go clubbin anymore but I would come back here.

I went to check out Door 44 last night (Friday). As with Sanna, it's still in it's soft open, so it wasn't very crowded. The grand opening is this Wednesday - Saturday (yes, 4 nights!) and I expect that this place will become very popular very fast. The decor is gorgeous and luxurious - black and red, oozing with sex appeal. I loved the wallpaper- textured brocade. The bar stools and seating were a sleek, black faux-snake. This place has a large bar and a lower level with a second bar and a very small dance floor. Upstairs, it's a big open room with dance platforms and skinny girls writhing around in hot pants and fishnets . This place was very cool. I think it will become a popular Midtown hotspot, and it should attract a different crowd - this is not for the faint of heart. It's definitely got an edge. By the way - just for reference - a vodka tonic (with mid-level vodka) was $8
