Average service, average music, average venue in general. They might be able to get away with that were there not a thousand other bars in the surrounding streets, but there are. Particularly unimpressed by the tiny roped off bar area and being sent back to it by an antisocial staff member after having been invited to join a table. You're probably better off spending the $5 cover charge at The Red Lion across the road or The Dove down Thompson St.

I've seen Ariel Pink, White Williams, No Age, and a couple others at JB's. Compared to most venues in the U.S. where the singer is a distant fleck, you can get spit on, sweated on and personally engaged with the performers at JB's given the intimate environs. It's worth it to buy your tickets very early in order to see shows here, since good groups almost always sell out here. I still regret missing the Bonde do Role show here in 2007!

Several of the other reviewers have stated that the Landing is like two different pubs, one at night and the other the day, well it's true. That however, isn't a bad thing. During the day (or very early morning) this is the place to catch all the Liverpool Football games, and being a die-hard LFC supporter it's heaven. Most of the others in the pub during games will be LFC supporters, with the random groups of Man U or Arsenal supporters, but there isn't really any hostility towards the other groups, save for the off occasion here and there. The food is pretty good, I'm pretty picky about food and what I don't like, so I love that I can order things however I want and I don't get crap for it. The bartenders are all pretty nice and don't take forever with your orders even when the bar is packed. During the night all of the tables are pushed aside and the bar becomes a nightclub. I've only been to Thursday nights, which are the drum and bass nights. There's loads of regulars who show up every week and are generally friendly. The music can be very loud, so bring earplugs if you're sensitive like me. Being from the Phoenix area it's fitting that this is the place I spend a lot of my time. The Landing is one of those random places I just can't seem to escape, and I don't really want to either.
