We were about to head to a nearby club but the lines were long so we walked around and found this quiet little place. Ok ok this bar is anything but quiet. It's really chill and what I needed after a long day in the office. Great music, good drinks, friendly bartenders, and if you're hungry, there's food nearby. The crowd in here is of the mellow type. Best thing of all, no waiting and cover to get in! Parking is $10 bucks for a small lot nearby. If you need to unwind, this is the place to go.

a few months ago that Harry Potter book came out, right? and that night Harvard Sq turned into a madhouse. But hey, it's a kid's book, so the bars will be empty, right? every bar in the vicinity was packed with full-grown men dressed as wizards, dragons,....just weird sh*t (sorry, never read the books, so I don't know the proper terminology..) so we deperately searched for some place in Cambridge to grab a few pints, and (thanks to a $5 cover) Phoenix landing was quiet on that Friday night. We paid the cover, popped in, and watched 20-somethings dance to 80s tunes while re-enacting dance moves from videos (who knew they taught NKOTB's Right Stuff moves in MA school system - apparently they did) Last night we purposely decided to go to PL because our friends wanted to get a little dance on. and this place provided the venue once again for bopping to 80s tunes (and 90s, and 00s) - essentially the DJ was smack out of a wedding reception, but it proved for a great evening. OK, so I was a bit depressed listening to some tunes, realizing that the first time "Don't Stop Believing" appeared on the charts, most of the crowd were just a mere gleam in their papa's eyes - and I was being rejected once again at a high school dance...... but the crowd was great - the place was packed - and the bartneders dealt as best they could (with the wall papered with tabs, seemingly one per person in the place). I am fairly certain that this Friday night Cyndi Lauper fest is atypical for the vibe of this place most nights - so don't come here expecting Dance Party USA every night (thank god) - it's also a great little pub to grab a few pints and catch a soccer or Sox game. I haven't eaten here in years - and in Central there are so many other places I would think of before this place for food. But if you are looking for an OK spot to grab a pint any time of day - and don't want to deal with all the BS that you run into at the Tavern - this and Field are the best options in Central, imho.
