Two words come to mind when I think about my Sunday afternoon at XIV: HOT DAMN! This place is ridiculous! I love LA summers. I especially love getting my drink on on a Sunday afternoon. Me and one of my girlfriends decided to stop by XIV (called Fourteen, not X-I-V) after having some margaritas down the street at Borracho. We met some lovely, cool, awesome girls that suggested we hit up XIV for more good times. As we walked up to the venue we knew this was definitely the place to be. There were tons of people on the patio and you could tell immediately it was packed wall-to-wall with people dancing, drinking and enjoying one last day of freedom before the dreaded work week. They hold a tight rope, but since it was just the two of us we were able to get in fairly easy. To avoid the humiliation of being rejected, I hear it's best to come at 4pm for a guaranteed in. We got there around 7pm and it was filled. The dance floor is VERY crowded, so if you're not into being packed like a sardine, this isn't the place for you. It doesn't really feel like you're in LA--except for the people. It's a combination of Vegas, Mexico, Spain--something kind of international, mainly because of the music. They played mostly salsa, Caribbean, bass infused beats accompanied by a young fellow on drums. Ah-mazing. If you want to enjoy the sun and the weekend a little bit longer come to XIV. It's clubbing on a Sunday afternoon and it's fabulous!

Ahh... Pupusas - this stuff flat bread to be topped with salsa, tangy, salty cabbage like stuff, spices, yum! My friend took me here for Latin dancing, pupusas, plantains and beans, and margaritas. WOW! Great place with sort of a simple low-key feel... not quite a greasy spoon, but definitely not a stuffy high-class joint. For those who don't know it, El Salvadorian food is still Latin flavors, but the masa is made differently and there are unique qualities that make it stand apart from Mexican food. We did not have to pay a cover because we were going for dinner. The plantains and beans are served with sour cream. I had never had this before and absolutely loved it!!!!!!!!! Plus, I ordered a scrumptious margarita. The music got a little loud for us to be able to talk, but the dancing was fun. We recently heard about the belly dance night on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, and I see in writing this review, that Lolana W. & Eugenia B have already reviewed that night. It sounds like a blast and were are definitely going back.

I really liked this place. It kinda felt like it was haunted by dead celebrities which was kinda cool. The old man playing the piano was great and the service was also wonderful. Very cool, laid back place to grab a couple of drinks after a long day at work.
