Now that they've opened the quasi-psychedlic outdoor seating area, not to mention done some great stuff to the menu, Silk City has officially ascended to my favorite breakfast/brunch location in the city. Yeah, it's got a bit of a "middle of nowhere" thing going on, but parking has never been a problem for me and it is definitely worth the ride. Only downside: They don't open until 10am on weekends. There've been a couple of occasions when we've gone to Sabrina's or someplace else instead simply because it was 9:00 and we were starving.

The Varsity is an interesting beast. It's a place that you have to go to at least once while you're in Atlanta, and sometimes you even crave it if you live around here. Yet, once you're there you know that you're going to pay for your craving later. The food is super-greasy (think greasy chili on a greasy beef patty on buttered bread), and while it's good it's not thaaaaat good. I will say however, that the Frosted Orange ("FO" for the insiders) is delicious, and all of the different eating rooms and the drive in service is pretty cool.

Came here last Friday for a friend of a friend's birthday. We came on the premise that they would be playing house music. It even said on the website there would be a room with house playing. But no one mentioned it cost extra to go in there. I guess since we did get in for free, we could have paid the extra to go in there, but after peeking around the not so friendly security guy to see what the vibe was, we decided it didn't look so fun so we passed. Luckily the DJ in the main area played a wide variety of music so it was cool. And by variety I mean anything from 80s to rock to rap. But as soon as we got into the song, he would switch to somethng else. It felt a little like the mix had ADD. The crowd was pretty good... no shady looking guys or crazy ass chicks. And it wasn't all stuffy or hot in there because... there were water drops falling on us. Did I mention it was raining that night? I'm not exactly sure what was going on, but water droplets are a bit odd. They might want to check their ceiling for future rainy nights. Maybe it was better that we had the hydration because the drinks were kind of expensive.
