by Chris T. on I've passed by this place for years, but until this season's Top Chef, hadn't heard anything about it to drive me there. Glad we finally made it. We walked in on a Thursday night, no reservation, and sat at the bar for dinner like we usually do anyway. We have the scallops/proscuitto and chantrell mushrooms for appetizers. Great apps! The we had the tenderloin and duck breast dinners. Cooked to perfection! The collard greens as a side on the tenderloin dish were fantastic. Finished the evening with the chocolate crepes and deconstructed key lime pie...and of course a couple of apertifs. Dinner was awesome, wine was awesome, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will be back, and wouldn't hesitate to sit at the bar for some of the best service in town.
by Thurman Ronk on I've been here on a Saturday night before and FOR SURE I would have to agree with all the other reviews that LAX earns at BEST 3 stars. BUT, if you're an electro/house music fan, check this place out on Sunday nights. DJ AM and DJ Aoki spin here pretty much every Sunday and the music is AMAZING! There's usually guest DJs or groups in too. BPM Magazine promotes/hosts the weekly event there called Banana Split Sundays (you can RSVP here http://www.bpmmagazine...). Theres also a free keg until it runs out. Sundays at LAX rank amongst some of my most fun nights out in Hollywood. But I'm with all of you that say this place sucks on nights when its just top 40s and hip hop.
by Michelle O. on I recently saw a show at Bimbo's (Royksopp) and had a fantastic time. I forgot how much I liked this place. You can't beat the atmosphere. . . classy in a quirky way, and I love the get-ups the bartenders wear. Even the acoustics sounded excellent, although after a couple of martinis, I may have not been the most discriminating listnener.
