by Laura Louise L. on I am generally a positive reviewer. I look for the bright side in most bad situations but for this one, if there were negative stars, that's what I would give for ESSR. It has looks but no substance. My friends and I arrived at 8:45 and by 10:00 we had finally received only our second drink. The drinks were way overpriced and took way to long to get. We felt like we were begging for our drinks. I was disappointed because I had heard some awesome hype about the place and really wanted to love it but this experience was so bad that unless someone wants to go there for their birthday or something, I won't be giving it a second chance. As a previous restaurant Manager as well as being invested in a bar downtown, I know it is going to take more than a pretty, chic interior to make this place last. I sincerely hope they can get it together.
by Cedrick Poduska on I wanted to like Silk City. I'm even giving it 3 stars based on what others have told me about the place. When I went it was the perfect storm of a DJ willing to play whatever, every bride-to-be from here to 'down' the shore and me not being NEARLY drunk enough to enjoy a playlist of 90's tween dance hits. It seems like it could be cool spot, but fucked if it was that Saturday. I'll give it another shot.
by Melanie K. on Why I could give this place a high rating: A) Tonight I met Harry Denton (the owner)- such a nice jolly old man! I approve. B) Barry Bonds decided to spend his evening there too tonight. Yes, he had an entourage. C) Nice view of the city. Why I gave this place a 3: A) Dance floor is always overcrowded. B) The scence fluctuates from week to week, sometimes quality, sometimes not so stellar. C) Layout is just awkward.
