by Dan M. on Royale replaced the Roxy, but it's essentially the same thing. I came here on Saturday night for a friend's birthday. What has happened to the nightclub scene in Boston? Up until a couple years ago I use to frequent the scene going to Venu, Aria, Underbar, etc. Besides being with friends, pretty much everything else bothered me that night. The bartenders were good to loook at, but that was about it. They weren't attentive and when I asked one of them what beer they had, she made some gesture to look at the bottles on the bar and then walked away. Sorry, it was dark, I couldn't see all the way to the other end. Is it that hard to read off the names of the 5 types of beer you have? When I finally ordered one she poured it into a plastic cup and it was all foam with the rest thrown out - $7. Tried a mixed drink that was weak - $10. The crowd was an awful mix of yea-dudes, internationals, and just suburbanites in the "big city" for the night. Oh yea, you get asked to take everything out of your pockets and get frisked before you get in! The place was jam packed with people constantly pushing and shoving, spilling drinks on you, starting fights because you spilled your drink on them. Big ladies in the "VIP" area yelling because God forbid you stepped into their area. We had a table too and it pretty much became a free-for-all after midnight with people grinding on our couches and spilling our mixers and knocking into our table and falling. What a huge mess. I WILL NEVER come here again and don't recommend anyone else does either. The music was also top 40 crap. I'm a pretty patient guy and it takes a really bad experience for me to never want to return to a spot. Congrats Royale, you were able to prevent me from ever returning in one visit. the worst.
by Audra Selbo on For relatively cheap, late night, as in all night, food, this place is the place to go. However, what happened to the cool outfits everyone was allowed to wear to show off their style. It looks like a whole new crew works there and they all now have to wear standard majestic shirts. Was this an attempt to up the class of the place. Also, it seems their menu has changed. Less southern extraoridinare dishes and more just waffle house esque options. But please do not get me wrong, the food is much better than waffle house, for sure. Bottom line- good for late night, drunk time with coffee, but beware of the lines that can develop during prime time drunk munchies times.
by Daniel C. on I just came back from visitng L.A. and i found the little temple on rateclubs. So i decided to go with the reviews and all i have to say is.. This is an awsome place. The thing about the parking is true though its hard , but the party was off the hook. The place is not to big , one room is bigger then the other , but you won't care once your dancing on the floor. The security were very nice , that also suprised me. Some of the bartenders are great, one gave me a bad taste when she asked me wheres my tip? after already tipping several times, other than that FUN !
