Tenjune Tuesdays used to be the thing this summer and the place was packed with models. This place has gone way downhill since, especially with the addition of Gangsta Sundays. Everyone good migrated to SL. You can still hang with lots of old dudes/sleazy club promoters/underage girls here.

I heard so many good things about Michael Mina and his restaurants, so when DineLA arrived I was glad to see XIV on the choices of restaurants. This was the first DineLA restaurant I went during the week, so I didn't carefully plan out the traffic congestion details of LA and what it usually brings at 6:00pm on a Thursday night. Luckily it wasn't raining or else it would've been worse. I made reservations at 7:00pm, and traffic made us get there at around 7:45. We called the restaurant to let them know we were going to be late and to hold our reservation. The girl who picked up the phone was very nice and said it wouldn't be a problem. Upon arrival, we valet ($10) and walked to the restaurant. Since the door didn't look like a door, we totally missed the entrance and one of the valet guys had to inform us where the entrance was. lol. It felt more like going to an upscale lounge/club than a restaurant. Trendy music and beautiful decor with books. We got seated between the bar and the kitchen, which was kind of odd because those tables are a lot higher than the rest of the restaurant. They do seem a bit out of place with all the waiters walking around all the time past us. For dinner, I went with the DineLA choices for $44. I got to try two different selections. My choices were: Parsnip Soup - Not a fan. It was foamy and tasted kind of bland. Tataki of American Wagyu Skirt - This was pretty good. The meat was tender and flavorful. I ordered the Beef Shabu Shabu on the side - This was ok. The presentation was cute. The spoon they gave us to drink was ridiculous. I think I still prefer going to a Japanese Shabu Shabu place. The cost of this dish was $21. Not worth it at all. Grilled Salmon - This would've been good if it was hot. I felt like our dish came out a bit lukewarm thus making me not enjoy it as much. The potatoes on the side were delicious though. Jidori Chicken - The chicken was so tender. However, the inside were a bit red and I was kind of afraid to finish it since I know how raw chicken is bad. I thought it was a bit weird that they had mac with the chicken and brocolli/carrots. Dessert- Nutella Custard- This was VERY good. I wasn't impressed by the presentation but the taste made up for it. Yuzu Curd - This was a bit too weird for me. It felt like there was a lot of sourness and sweet mixed together. Presentation was nice though. All in all, the atmosphere was cool and trendy, the restaurant was nice and the staff were very nice. Our appetizers and entrees came faster than the desserts. The desserts took about 20 mins to arrive and for us to have to check with the staff on it was a bit weird since everything else came out so quickly. I wouldn't go back unless its for a special occasion.
